We swept through the French countryside like a Rootstock shaped tornado. 3 days visiting some of the most exciting wine regions, cities and staggering countryside. Dispensing with the linear I’m starting at the end.
We popped up in Ariege having visited Lyon, Beaujolais, Coteaux du Lyonnais, some of the Northern Rhone’s most illustrious appellations, Montpellier and the Languedoc.
Crossing the Garonne, turning off the D43 I noted that I’d forgotten what an incredible area this was. Equidistant between Toulouse to the north and the Pyrenees to the south there is subtle Mediterranean and Atlantic influence here.
We met Simon and his apprentice Maxim at the estate for a tour of the cellars at Ribonnet. Harvest was not long over so there were plenty of new cuvees fermenting.
We tried the Viognier 2021 which was tasting good with nice varietal character. The new Pinot was also developing nicely. Special mention to the Syrah 2020 which Simon was rightly very proud of. The sample already felt fully realised and showed incredible depth of fruit, complexity and elegance.
The bulk of the cask aged wines live in an annex of the cellar built by originator Clement Ader. Simon explained how Ader intended the unique glass lined rooms as a method of maintaining hygiene. Today they probably still have that function but they also set the area off in a distinctive shade of aqua-marine.
We wrapped up with a tasting of new wines and some interesting additions we hadn’t tried before. Very interesting to learn from Simon that nearly 50% of sales are from cellar door! The rest is from domestic sales, some to Benelux countries, a little to the far-east and of course a little to us in Blighty.
Simon brought out a cured ham a farmer friend had given him for his 30th birthday recently which was delicious and a good foil to the wines.
Many thanks to Simon for being the perfect host. We hope to get back to Beaumont-sur-Leze again soon.
Our new order should be arriving in the UK soon with the following references:
Syrah 2019
Pinot Noir 2019
Viognier 2020
Chenin 2019
Chardonnay 2019
Syrah 2019 Magnums (tiny quantities so get in quick to reserve one)
Chardonnay 2019 Magnums (see above)

Yes folks there’s more than one L.P. on the sparkling scene. Introducing Louis Picamelot!
Produced méthode Traditionnelle in Burgundy’s Rully and Saint Aubin. The philosophy isn’t to chase the tail of the Champenoise but to make exceptional wines that express the magnificent, diverse terroirs of Burgundy in a sparkling capacity.

We are enthralled to be receiving a pair of extraordinary wines from the marvellous Louis Picamelot in the next few weeks.

Les Terroirs is a blend of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Aligote sourced from the Cotes Chalonnaise, Cotes de Beaune and the Cotes de Nuits. L.P. do not blend between vintages so essentially this is vintage wine although not stated. The dosage is around 5g/l which the chef du cave bases on the ripeness of fruit.

Les Reipes 2016 is a single vineyard selection from a 1.55 ha site on the south-facing slopes of Saint-Aubin at an altitude of 350m. The site was made a UNESCO world heritage site in 2015.
This is 100% Chardonnay manually harvested at optimum ripeness for immense elegance and purity of fruit.

We’ll be in touch soon again with more info, prices and an exact ETA for landing these beauties.

In the meantime DM us for pre-orders.

Sad to say this is the last bottle of this beautiful 2018 vintage of Domaine des Grabottes Brin de Blancs. 😪 Taken from Chardonnay and Aligote fruit grown on glacial moraines it’s a wine of great delicacy and finesse. The good news is that we’ll be receiving the 2020 vintage in a few weeks!😍 Along with that there will be a small parcel of 2018 Grabottines, the new 2019 Grabottines and 2018 Los Compadres.
Nice mention for Coteaux du Lyonnais and Domaine des Grabottes here in Vin.S magazine.

These are stunning wines that showcase the quality of Coteaux du Lyonnais terroir as a treat for appreciators of Gamay and serious whites of great depth.

We are absolutely thrilled to be out visiting Jonathan in Millery very soon, seeing how the 2021 vintage has gone and checking on progress of the new wines. No doubt there will be plenty of IG friendly photo opportunities along the way!

Will check back shortly with an ETA for landing these beauties.
