A big shout-out to our very own Scott Dwyer 🧡

A lot of you will have had the pleasure of speaking to Scott over the years.

He’s usually the one on the other end of the phone helping someone find what they need, sorting a problem or simply making sure a customer is looked after.

This time, we’d like to ask for a little support for him.

In 2022, Scott was involved in a near-fatal trauma accident.

Magpas Air Ambulance operated on him at the scene and saved his life.

That hasn’t stopped him from setting himself some serious challenges.

In 2025, Scott pushed 300 miles in his wheelchair and raised a fantastic amount for Magpas.

Now he’s going again.

On 11th October 2026, Scott will take on the Peterborough Half Marathon, pushing the full distance in his wheelchair.

And he’s not just looking to finish.

Scott is aiming to beat 3 hours 30 minutes on a closed-road course with a maximum finishing time.

This time he’s raising money for Little Miracles, a charity supporting families with children and young adults who have additional needs, disabilities and life-limiting conditions.

We’d absolutely love to see the flooring community get behind him and help Scott reach his fundraising goal... and, if we can, push straight past it.

If you’re already working with wood floors, or you want to build your skills properly, this is three days of practical training worth looking at.

1️⃣ Get your machine set-up right
Work with professional sanding equipment and learn about correct machine set-up, including the Pallmann Cobra and Spider, Bona Flex and different edgers and extractors.

2️⃣ Understand your abrasives
Learn how to select the right abrasives and grit sequences rather than relying on what you’ve always done.

3️⃣ Get hands-on with finishes
We cover primers, lacquers, oils, hard wax oils, and stains, including application and final coats.

4️⃣ Learn how to diagnose problems
Understanding why something has gone wrong is a valuable skill when you’re standing on a customer’s floor.

5️⃣ Learn with the business in mind
The course also covers maximising profit when running a floor sanding business... because doing good work needs to make commercial sense too.

Sometimes supporting our customers means getting out of the office and getting stuck in 👊🏼

One of our customers was working on this village hall on his own, applying the finish after all the prep work was done.

So Cameron headed out to site to give him a hand.

The system for this floor was PALL-X 325 primer followed by PALL-X 96 Power, and we managed to capture some of the application while they worked.

This is the part of Ultimate Floorcare we really enjoy... working with the people using these products every day and being there when an extra pair of hands helps get the job done.

When did you last look underneath your Cobra 09? 👀

Simon’s got a simple maintenance tip here that’s worth keeping on top of... clean your wheels.

Sanding dust and residue can gradually build up on them.

If that build-up is left there, it can affect how consistently the machine sits and travels across the floor, which isn't what you want when you're trying to get an even sanding result.

As Simon shows in the video, it doesn’t take much to scrape the build-up away and get the wheels clean again.

A few minutes looking after the machine that earns your living makes sense.

Is your belt sander cutting heavier on one side?

Simon’s got this one on the test bench to check whether the sanding drum is running parallel.

This test lets us see how the drum is contacting the floor and whether one side is cutting more aggressively than the other.

Once Simon had identified what was needed, a quick dressing of the drum had it sorted and ready to get back out on the floors.

It’s exactly the sort of thing we’re looking for when a machine comes into the UFC workshop.
