Coffee Shop on Whitchurch Road, Cardiff

Open Tuesday - Saturday 8am til 3pm.

Currently waiting on a couple of deliveries to restock the shelves this week from Square Mile Coffee Roasters and re-introducing a roaster I haven’t had in the shop for some time NewGround.

It was also lovely to have a visit from familiar face Cal today from Yallah Coffee - looking forward to trying their latest offerings.

Currently have the last of a delicious washed Ethiopian from Mission Coffee Works in the hopper, one of my favourite roasters in terms of flavour of profile to have in the shop - it’s been a delight.

It’s been lovely to see the flow of parents on the school drop offs again. It’s all missed during the summer, so the routine coming back feels familiar and welcome.

I have a few random dates to fill you in on between now and Christmas (yes I said the word) - but more on that another day.

I’m back this week with tasty brews for you to enjoy after a delightful time ArcTanGent and a week with the little’un.

Coffee from James Gourmet Coffee Roasters in the hopper still, soon to be Mission Coffee Works in the coming week.

Astrid's Petite Cuisine pastries will be back this week too which I can’t wait for (Fridays and Saturdays).

I hope everyone enjoys the last couple days of the summer break before the kids are back in school. I’m here if you need a pick me up to get you through.

Reminder - I’m away ArcTanGent for a few days, then taking a week off with the little’un. Back September 1st.

The first day of the festival was phenomenal but I’m already ‘feeling my age’ - trying to look after myself this year.

I was originally coming on my own, but some friendly friends of friends found me as we both parked up and we pitched up together. I’ve already made them both coffee this morning.

My last few days pouring espresso before closing for 2 weeks.

My last day open is this Friday August 14th - then I’ll be closing until Tuesday September 1st.

The summer has been chill as expected in this area. It’s been nice, but also had its moments.

It’s been lush to see the student change over as they move out and move in - families coming and going on holidays.

I’ve been trying my best to use this time to relax as much as possible, but as you can imagine having a little’un of our own it’s also one of the busier times of the year as our routine gets thrown outta whack.

Next week as mentioned, I’ll be away at ArcTanGent - the list of bands is growing. Over 70 bands I’d be happy seeing - and the week after I’m aiming to spend quality time with my daughter.

Thank you again to all of my regulars and those who visit. This shop is something special and different. So many places say they offer community - but the people who come here are something different. There are no quiet moments. Everyone knows everyone and when you’re all together laughing and catching up it brings a smile.

Hopefully I’ll see you before I take the break, else catch you in September for the new school year 🤟

Morning all

There’s just another week or so before I’ll be closing up for a 2 week break - I’m heading to ArcTanGent (I’ve made a list of 69 bands to check out) and having a week with the little’un before school starts again.

My last day open before the break will be August 14th, then I’ll be back open as usual from September 1st.

I’ve got plenty of retail from Colonna Coffee and James Gourmet Coffee Roasters still on the shelves.

I’ve also got a fresher batch from Mission Coffee Works which will appear before I disappear.

Round Hill Roastery are currently on batch filter, a natural Colombian we’ll say is actually a rum punch - on espresso Colonna Coffee have supplied an ‘eco’ pulped natural (meaning no water used) - which has been quite punchy but delicious.

Hopefully I’ll catch you soon before I go ☺️

It’s been lovely and warm recently hasn’t it?

Just a reminder, I’m closed this Saturday as we’re heading off on a long weekend trip for Clare Blake birthday.

This means one day this week of pastries from Astrid's Petite Cuisine from me before their break, then over the summer it will be cakes as usual from Nicola Lawrence throughout the week.

I’ll be closing the last 2 weeks of August over the summer to attend ArcTanGent in the crowds, and have a week of recovery with the little’un before she goes back to school.

Colonna Coffee is on its way so it might hit the shelves before the weekend if you need a top up.

Tucked away around a corner from Whitchurch Road is Blake & Brew - and it’s not just a hatch.

It’s a cafe that serves coffee, cakes (from Nicola Lawrence) and a couple of days a week pastry (from Astrid's Petite Cuisine) to the local community and other friendly faces.

Also on display inside you’ll find retail coffee to take and brew at home, to take away whilst on your holiday or to give as a gift.

Open from 8am Tuesday to Saturday, you can grab a take away on your way to work or whilst you’re doing the school run, on your lunch break or if you find a spare moment you can come and sit and chat with the locals and other visitors.

With access from inside the cafe you can walk through to - a print gallery with some extra seating. In here it’s quiet and relatively cool, and a nice little space to work or have a catch up away from the bustle of the hatch.

Laptop users are more than welcome to join the space to work from whilst enjoying a coffee or two. Rarely is there never a spare seat to pitch up at.

More recently some parasols have arrived to help shade from this beautiful sun we’re getting which beams down on the shop for most of the day - and many of you seem to be enjoying it.

A reminder if you’ve got this far that it’s service as usual for most of the summer. I’ll be closed Saturday 18th July whilst celebrating a Birthday and closed the last two weeks of August for a reset and break.

Only 3 more pastry days here after today with Astrid's Petite Cuisine before they have a summer break.

I’ll be closed Saturday 18th for a long weekend as it’s Clare Blake birthday, and our wedding anniversary week.

We’ll be heading off to Trevayne Farm | a Pembrokeshire working farm & place to stay - one of our favourite places for a few days ☺️

Did you know…

Blake & Brew has an entry to a hidden gallery. We don’t shout about it a lot but is situated right next door, and you’re welcome to sit here whilst enjoying your coffee.

The gallery features many well known Welsh artists and prints.

The first show was put on in 1999, curated by gallery owner Neil Confrey, and holds relation to his professional career as a mental health lawyer.

The gallery often stays relatively cool, so come and enjoy the space if you need to get out of the heat.
