With our exciting new Portuguese range arriving in store, we thought it was only right to crack a few bottles open and share them around!
Our buyers, Andy Bray and Jane Masters MW, have been busy travelling through 6 regions and 9 w**eries in just 3 days – quite the whistle-stop tour! And we’re incredibly pleased with the w**es they’ve brought back. Think juicy, punchy, refreshing flavours, full of character and showcasing Portugal’s wonderful native grape varieties, many of which you simply won’t find growing anywhere else.
If you’re already a fan of LB7, Porta 6, Taylor’s Port, Casal Garcia and the likes, you’ll know that Portugal has plenty of delicious things to offer, and these new additions are certainly worth getting excited about! We’ve welcomed quite a few Portuguese newbies to the shelves, and we’d love to guide you through them. So be sure to have a proper good meander, discover something a little different and perhaps take home a new favourite!
You might also notice we’ve snuck a Gamay onto the tasting counter, as Beaujolais Nouveau Day is fast approaching! And from what I hear, it’s quite the festivity in this part of Wales! Beaujolais is always a crowd-pleaser – or at least it is in this household. Whether it’s Morgon, Fleurie or Beaujolais Villages, there’s something so charming about its ability to be light, elegant and yet still punch well above its weight. This Definition Fleurie is no exception. Think delicate rose petals, a little woodland earthiness and beautifully soft tannins. Smooth, fragrant and wonderfully easy to fall for, it’s a gorgeous example of what this Beaujolais cru does best.
And for something a little off the beaten track, we’ve also got a Slovenian wildcard in the form of Krasno Pinot Bianco! A lovely reminder that there’s so much exciting w**e to discover beyond the usual suspects, this is a beautifully fresh, gently rounded white with orchard fruit, a touch of citrus and a lovely little mineral edge. One for anyone who fancies venturing beyond their usual Pinot Grigio – familiar enough to feel comforting, but with a bit more character up its sleeve!
