For every mother carrying life, and every family still praying for a baby.

Today, August 31, we remember St. Raymond Nonnatus, patron of expectant mothers, unborn children, childbirth, and families longing for a child.

May he intercede for safe deliveries, protected little ones, grieving hearts, and all who wait in hope.

St. Raymond Nonnatus, pray for us.

Offer one Hail Mary for an expectant mother today.

A Mother’s Blessing for Her Children

Catholic mothers should make a habit of blessing and praying for their children.

A mother’s blessing is more than simply showing affection. It is a way of asking God to watch over her children, guide them, protect them from evil, and keep them close to Christ.

Parents have a special responsibility given by God to care for their children—not only physically and emotionally, but spiritually as well. Because of this, a mother’s prayers for her children are especially important.

She can pray for them when they are struggling with their faith, when they are making poor choices, when they are surrounded by bad influences, or simply as part of everyday family life.

How can a mother bless her child?

One simple way is to make the Sign of the Cross on the child’s forehead and say:

“My child, I bless you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.”

She may also say:

“May the Blessed Virgin Mary watch over you, guide you and protect you from evil. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.”

The important thing is to pray with faith, love and trust in God.

If the child is grown up or living far away, the mother can still pray for him or her. Physical distance does not prevent a mother from entrusting her child to God.

Pray for your children every day

A mother can also pray the Rosary or other prayers for her children, asking Our Lady and the saints to intercede for them.

The heart of the practice is very simple:

Entrust your children to Christ every day. Ask God to protect them, guide them, strengthen their faith and lead them toward what is good.

A mother cannot control every decision her children make, especially when they become adults. But she can always love them, pray for them, bless them and place them in God’s hands.

That, I think, captures the beautiful part of the original post without some of its rather complicated language about “hierarchical power,” “jurisdiction,” “ontological ties,” and “protective barriers.”

What are we all still holding onto ?
This has profoundly effected us here at Piety Stall, praying for you all, for us all, that we can give up the things that hold us back from Gods grace 🥹
