Exciting news for the wild anabantoid enthusiasts!

​We recently landed a group of the rare Jewel Gourami (Nannostrophomenus gemma), and our display group has already settled in so well that we’ve managed to get them breeding in-store!

​These tiny gems are absolute stunners once settled into a proper blackwater environment. We set them up in soft, acidic water with plenty of botanical cover, leaf litter, and gentle flow—and courtship display behaviour kicked off almost immediately. Watching the males light up with their iridescent fin margins during cave-spawning displays has been incredible to see behind the counter.

​Few highlights on how we’ve got them thriving:

​Water parameters: Ultra-soft RO water, heavily tinted with natural tannins and kept at a low pH.

​Habitat: Low light, dense leaf litter, and tiny ceramic breeding caves/film canisters tucked into shady corners.

​Diet: Exclusively live micro-foods—plenty of freshly hatched baby brine shrimp, microworms, and live copepods.
