The September edition of Listen With The Vinyl Lounge is now available! This month we're rummaging through records recently in stock at The Vinyl Lounge, from second-hand discoveries to some of the new and sealed vinyl we're now stocking. Expect everything from indie, Britpop and post-punk to reggae, psychedelia, electronica and heavy rock, with Horsegirl, Dinosaur Jr, David Byrne, Goat, Khruangbin, Linton Kwesi Johnson, Jack White, Kate Bush and plenty more along the way. There are Freak Scenes, Time Machines & Rapid Transport Links, plus the usual highly questionable assistance of Reginald Aubrey Fotheringill. 🎧📻💿

My pick from the racks today is the second album from Horsegirl, "Phonetics On and On".

Produced by Cate Le Bon, it sees the trio stripping things back from the noisier indie-rock of their debut into something more sparse, melodic and wonderfully off-kilter: wiry guitars, playful rhythms, deadpan vocals and songs that somehow manage to sound both familiar and quite unlike anything else.

There are shades of The Velvet Underground, The Raincoats and Stereolab in there, but Horsegirl have very much developed a peculiar little musical world of their own.

One of my favourite albums to have passed through the shop recently, and highly recommended.
