I am a paediatric ED Nurse and was working one day (in Oxford) when my godson Alex was brought in to the Emergency Dept. He was seriously ill, and things sadly just got worse. After being stabilised, he was moved to the Children's Hospital, but after a few days deteriorated again and we were still no closer to a diagnosis. He ended up in Intensive Care literally on the brink of death. But he pulled through, and was later diagnosed with a rare Blood & Immunity Disorder, and began treatment and management by Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital specialists. The only cure for his condition was to be a Bone Marrow Transplant - but with limited success rates. After a few years of difficult decisions, his family chose to try and find a Bone Marrow donor - that's where The Antony Nolan Trust came in. They found him a match from their German register, flew the donor to the UK and retrieved the Marrow for Alex. Alex is now cured, and finally back at school approaching his adolescence with great health! The Trust were amazing, supportive to Alex and his family, and without their help Alex's future could have been very different....please help me fundraise by coming to the sale :) They get no government or NHS financial support, yet they save SO many lives...
Thanks for reading, hope to see you in March. Claire Osborne.
