An amazing little chest of drawers heading to IACF Newark on Thursday and Friday.

Four serpentine form drawers, bracket feet and decorated on all sides with fantastically intricate geometric parquetry inlaid with walnut and olive wood and mother of pearl.

I found her on a recent French trip, and I seriously love everything about her.

Noël was a French artist associated with the Groupe de Roubaix, a post war artistic movement in Northern France.

She's just one of the many artworks (and frames) heading to IACF Newark on Thursday and Friday.

Best of luck to all my friends running the Lakeland 100 (and 50) this weekend.

They'll be 2.5 hours in by now on the 105 mile loop on unmarked Lake District trails, starting and finishing in Coniston.

Swipe for me before, during and after, a million years ago...

I'll be dot watching the trackers, particularly my old friend Shelly Gordon, and Anna Troup, both steady away through the 1st Checkpoint.

Verna Hull was a wealthy American painter and photographer, the daughter of Greta Garbo’s psychiatrist, Dr. Vernon Herbst, and the stepdaughter of a Sears Roebuck heiress.

She worked as an assistant to renowned Vogue and Bazaar photographer Erwin Blumenfeld, and became a notorious socialite mixing with Hollywood's fashionable and wealthy set.

In 1958, Hull met American actress and beauty Claudette Colbert, with whom she was long rumoured to have had an affair. The two women resided in adjoining Manhattan penthouses and had neighbouring homes in Barbados, where Verna was also friends with Princess Margaret. Verna and Claudette's relationship publicly and acrimoniously ended in 1968 with an argument regarding the death of Colbert’s husband.

Verna painted with a vibrant style, nicknamed 'The Brushless Painter' by journalist Irene Corbally Kuhn, she applied paint with a thick impasto style using anything from her fingers to kitchen knives.

This oil on board depicts two females, painted from a rear view in traditional Japanese dress and hairstyle, in an orange, mustard and cream palette. The painting is signed 'Hull' and 'Verna Hull', unglazed and framed with a simple wooden frame.
