My top five tips for better to-do lists...⁠

5️⃣ be gentle with yourself

It's too easy these days to beat yourself up for not staying on top of everything. Influencers are peddling images of a perfect life where you're able to work, stay fit, meal prep, do the housework, see friends, take up some obscure hobby and still get 8 hours sleep. It's not happening people.

If a list is stressing you out, rip it up and start again. See if there's anything you can delegate and be realistic with how much time you have to do each task.

4️⃣ categorise and prioritise

Ever heard of the Eisenhower Matrix? It can be a helpful little tool to organise tasks by urgency and importance. Urgent tasks are things that require your immediate attention, whereas important tasks may not need to be dealt with immediately, but contribute to longer-term projects or goals.

3️⃣ Make more than one list

I probably have about 10 lists on the go at any one time. That might be a tad overboard, but multiple lists are the way.

I have my daily personal to-dos, work to-dos, Letters & Lines to-dos (and sometimes weekly versions of those too!) plus a few others for stuff that needs sorting in the house, DIY jobs, housework, life admin etc.

A random mishmash of tasks is just going to lead to confusion. Having one list in front of you that's relevant to what you're doing right now is going to give you the focus to actually get stuff done.
