A candle is a great way to relieve stress and help to improve mental health. It doesn’t even have to be one with essential oils. It can be unscented and still have benefits.
The flicker of the flame can be soothing. Fragrance can evoke pleasant memories from bygone days especially if you have a favourite scent.
Do you always get the best out of your candle? By following a few “rules”, your candle will burn better and last longer.
• always trim the wick to approx 5mm before lighting, even on a brand new candle. Most candle wicks are left longer when you first buy them. Also note that most tealights require trimming too before first burn.
• always try to burn your candle for at least 2 to 3 hours on the first burn. This will allow the melt pool to spread out to the edges and avoid tunnelling happening. Sometimes it will be a 2nd burn before the pool reaches right to the edges. It isn’t advised to light if you are only able to leave your candle burning for a short time (eg less than an hour or 2)
• never burn a candle for more than 4 hours at a time. If you want to burn for longer, extinguish, leave to cool for a while then trim the wick before relighting
And a few safety reminders
•never burn a candle in a draft or near flammable materials
• keep out of reach of pets and children
• always place on a coaster (or similar) to avoid any heat transfer
• never move a lit candle
• always remove any debris from your candle’s surface.
Should you accidentally spill candle wax, our candles are made from soy wax and the wax can be washed out with hot soapy water, scraping any excess wax off first. If you spill on a non washable surface (eg a carpet), allow to solidify, carefully scrape excess wax off then place a piece of kitchen roll over affected area and gently heat with a hair dryer. The paper towel should lift the wax away then gently wipe the surface with a damp cloth.
Happy candle burning....
