Bringing the wild beauty of the North Cornwall coast a little bit closer to your home.
There’s something so magical about how an artist can capture a fleeting moment in a landscape. Looking at Josie Clouting’s beautiful piece, 'Lookout', you can almost feel that fresh sea breeze and see the light shifting across the water.
As our 'Made of Place' exhibition enters its final few weeks in the gallery, we’ve loved seeing so many of you stop by to enjoy these textures in person.
But we know a lot of our lovely community lives a bit further afield!
If you’ve been dreaming of adding a breath of fresh air to your own walls, we've made sure the entire collection is up on our online shop. It’s waiting for you to browse at your own pace from the comfort of your favorite armchair.
Looking for that perfect artwork? We are always here to help you make your spaces feel like home.
Pop over to emeraldframes.com (or tap the link in our bio) to explore the collection before the show draws to a close on May 30th.
We'd love to know—which piece has been your favourite so far?

We are thrilled to spotlight “Wilder,” a nature-inspired wreath study by Ali Mackie.

In this painting, Ali invites us to slow down and witness a “measured response” to the changing landscape. Rather than overwhelming the eye, Wilder strips away the noise to reveal the soul of the shifting seasons.
It captures the raw beauty of windswept leaves and branches with a deliberate, poetic grace.

Why We Love It:

* Essential Forms: Look closely to find the perfect arch of a branch and the delicate orb of a rosehip.
* Movement: The composition captures the literal “dance” of falling yellow leaves.
* Minimalist Spirit: A masterclass in finding depth through simplicity.

This painting holds a quiet power—perfect for those who find peace in the raw, unpolished edges of the natural world.

This painting is available to view in the gallery or can be purchased online.

The Texture of the Tides 🐚

Taking a closer look at the incredible details in Jacqueline Ford’s latest work. There is a tangible magic that happens when Japanese watercolours meet sea salt on the page.

Jacq’s “Pebble Portals” aren’t just paintings; they are tactile explorations of the coast. By using salt to pull and crystallize the pigment, she captures that rugged, weathered crust you find on ancient shoreline stones. It’s that perfect mix of fluid transparency and raw, gritty texture.

As Jacq says: “Blue is a colour that I return to again and again... a subconscious coastal nod to counting the days to my annual pilgrimage to St Ives.”

You can almost feel the sea spray and the sun-dried salt on your skin through these layers of cerulean and turquoise. A true dose of Vitamin SEA as we wait for the tide to come in. 💙

Come and explore Jacq’s Portals in the gallery or on our online store.

Caerthillian

Captured in the rugged beauty of the Cornish coastline, this piece is an expressive and intuitive exploration of the Atlantic shore.

The title, ‘Caerthillian’, stems from the Cornish word ‘Caer’—meaning an enclosed place or fort—evoking a sense of sanctuary amidst the wild, dramatic topography. This work is a direct response to the unique light and atmospherefound where the land meets the sea.

Artwork Details
* Title: Caerthillian
* Artist: Josie Clouting
* Medium: Oil, pastel, and oil bar on wood panel
* Size: 50 x 40cm

I am thrilled to share that Caerthillian is now on display at the gallery. Seeing the textures of the oil bar and the depth of the wood panel in person truly brings the Cornish spirit to life.

Made In Place – Guest Artist – Jacqueline Ford.

I am so pleased to introduce our guest artist, Jacqueline Ford, and her beautiful ‘Pebble Portal of Possibility’ series.

There is something so special about how Jacq works. She uses Japanese watercolours and sea salt to capture that raw, seaworn texture of the shoreline. You can really feel the grit and the spray in these portals.

For Jacq, the palette is a homecoming. As she says:   “Blue is a colour that I return to again and again - or maybe it never leaves me and the use of other colours is a pause before returning to what calls me most.”

I love that these artworks emerged as a subconscious coastal nod—a way of counting down the days to her annual pilgrimage to St Ives. Hoping it won’t be long until Jacq gets that delicious dose of Vitamin SEA.

Materials: Optima mixed media paper + Japanese gansai watercolours from Choosing Keeping and Kuratake + granulating watercolours from Holbein and Van Gogh + gesso + a pinch of Cornish sea salt to add texture
