Firstly, may I congratulate Chris Vanair VanRaemdonck on his win.

Well, that was an eventful three days for Team Trickbits and the YZ-W91R. Jose Zayas was not a happy camper when we talked the following day. That said, ONS round 2 was not all bad. We set the fastest qualifying time in round three. Round one of the A1main, and a loose screw did for the YZ-W91R🙈. Jose was amazed that he even finished in second place… In A2 main, he took a clear win; we desperately needed a three-legged A final for a conclusive decider. But these are the rules, and we must be happy with what Jose achieved: -

The YZ-W91R set the fastest qualifying time for the class at 11/5:07.33, and finished with a P2 & P1 in the finals for second overall, not so terrible, but.....

This is only the YZ-W91R second race, and the first outing on dirt. Jose has accumulated a significant amount of information, and that will be put to good use in upcoming races. Jose is a highly rated development driver. Just look at his and Dan McDade Losi xx² and XXT project for starter💥 We talk most weeks. His opening line will normally start with ‘I have had this idea’, ‘or why did you do that?’. Rest assured. JZ will be instrumental in developing the YZ-W91R for customers in the USA. Please reach out to either of us if you would like to know more about the RC Trickbit vintage Yokomos.

Now, here is the real kicker for the competition: we were running the YZ-W91R with box standard gear diffs😱. Next time out, it will be competing with the Trickbits large diameter spring steel racing ball diffs. These are manufactured in the UK and have a race-proven pedigree as the design is lifted directly from our race-winning YZ10R-25

Until next time💪

Jose Zayas is racing the Trickbits YZ-W91R at round 2 of the JConcepts Outdoor National Series at Adrenaline RC Raceway. Regrettably, we missed round one as the car was not ready in time.
Jose has driven the YZ-W91R on only one other occasion at the third Annual Vintage Showdown on the 10th April. At which he delivered the first Trickbits double with the YZ10R-25R.

We knew from the get-go that this event would represent a significant challenge. The local weather was more akin to UK weather, with continual rain for many days prior to the event. So, no practice with the car on loose dirt.

Qualifying took place yesterday, and the Trickbits YZ-W91R ended up P2. Congratulations to Chris Vanair VanRaemdonck, who set two super consistent rounds 11/5:11:660 and followed up with 11/5:11:030, impressive consistency.

We were two seconds off that race distance pace, circa 0.18 per lap… In Round 3, Chris elected not to run, as he had already secured TQ. Jose changed the car setting again and set a time of 11/5:07:335! We should take that time with a pinch of salt, it may have been as a result of the setting changes, or the track may have improved, but without Chris running, we will not know.
All to play for in the A Main later today.

The A main from the Modelsport Vintage National event. This is Nick Goodall RC in ballistic form.

Regrettably, not the most exciting A final, I would much prefer to witness a close fight for the win. But we were racing against a strong field containing a bunch of Predators, the MX4 and XX4.

Although a new track, this is very much a bumpy old-school astro track. The YZ10R-25 was in its element💥

Roll on round three.

Modelsport Vintage National Series Race Report Brian Burrows and Steve Kirk YZ-W91R

Where do I start? These two have been running our new 91 car from the get-go. New car, new drivers, I wasn’t sure what to expect, however they are good fun and super dedicated to moving the car forward, and importantly they both love the way the car drives.

After finishing 1-2 in round one at Mendip, it’s difficult to explain the positive shock at that time. I knew the car was good for it, however, race day always has something in store for you? Coming away from round one with a 1-2, could they repeat the same feat? Hell yea, no problem, anything is possible now.

Steve TQ – 3 – 2 – 3 = P2

Brian, - 4 – 5 – 4 – 2 = P4

It was unfortunate that Steve tipped it in the closing stages of the final allowing Brian to slip through. They both drove fantastically in this final. A pleasure to watch. They are working well together and they will be testing together at Robin Hood this upcoming weekend.

A new YZ-W91R customer gave his first impressions after driving the car. He was driving one of our competitors’ cars back in back to back testing against the YZ-W91R. He wasn’t sure whether either had any outright speed difference, I think it has🚀However, the W91R was definitely safer over a full race distance, and that’s a positive first assessment for sure.

So we depart round two leading the class standings with YZ-W91R and the YZ10R-25💥

Happy days🌞 🌞

Modelsport Vintage National Series. Race report – Nick Goodall RC YZ10R-25.

Each time I sit down to compile a race report for Nick, it becomes more difficult to articulate each achievement. The fellow competitors who attend these meetings are fully aware of Nick’s ability, and nobody's really shocked to see him reel off lap after lap, he is so consistent

When driving to this meeting, I felt a little apprehensive. We would be facing a good number of the new Predators, and at least one of the drivers had been testing at the track for some time. Finally, Rhys Ward would be running the RRP MX4 against us, so all to play for.

For sure, it was not all plain sailing. Round one started with a win. Round two, the car dropped the left-hand kingpin, however another win. Round 3, was a little tricky. I think Nick needed to be marshalled, which resulted in a 27-second lap, and Rhys was away.

Round 4, no mistakes this time. Nick set a time of 13:208, which was the class TQ.

In the A final, from the get-go, Nick set eleven 23-second laps, the fastest being 23:04, and this was also the fastest class lap of the day. His race average was 23.42. and 7 seconds up the road from second position.

Now here's the rub. The last time Nick drove this car was at Mendip, round one on the 29th of March!

Next report. More good news on the YZ-W91R...

I have had the Nick Goodall R25 in my workshop over the past few days. It has received a little refresh before round two of the Modlesport vintage national series.

In truth, I had little to do on the mechanical side of the car, other than a shock rebuild. The diffs were last rebuilt in November, and they are still good. I have added two Yokomo hop-ups to the shock package and made a change to the weight distribution.

I have also added the Z3D (Jose Zayas) side rails to the chassis and that has tidied things up nicely.

Jose is also the chief designer of the Losi double XX² and XXT at Modern Vintage kits with Dan from Dragon Punch. These kits are imported by Modelsport in the UK. Importantly for Trickbits, Jose also drives the Trickbits YZ-W91R and YZ10R-25 in the USA for us and winning races💥

Just popped down to the machine shop to check up on the progress of our latest batch of high-carbon spring steel ball diff outdrives for the Yokomo W91and 870c.

The finish on these out drives is sublime. The high-carbon spring steel material we use is pre treated, and therefore harder to machine. With luck, they should be off for the final stage of hardening next week.

Happy days.

Jose Zayas double TQ and win driving the Trickbits YZ10R-25 and YZ-W91R 'Silver Dollar' at the Third Annual Vintage Showdown in the US.

What a superstar ✨ he has only raced the YZ10R-25 once, and he was the fastest Vintage Yokomo on that occasion. He received the YZ-W91R four days ago. First drive on Friday, followed by the TQ and win on Saturday. That is impressive💥
