What do I do when I have a book published tomorrow? I just get on with my job. I’m a flower farmer and wedding flowers are our bread and butter. These are from last weekend but I’m working on two more not dissimilar for this. So the all new edition of The Flower Farmer’s Year is out tomorrow and we have a good working day ahead: early start for wedding flowers, then a live q&a about the book for ALL over on the Club (Clubbers, shall we be generous and make this an open session?) then I’m off to Wells to give a talk at the Wells Gardening Club, then more wedding flowers Friday and in we go. I hope you love the book, the flowers and this cheerful music ### wish me luck! ###

Our Pricing Cut Flowers To Sell workshop takes place online next week.

Are you thinking of joining us?

We believe that you’ll recoup the cost of this session very quickly, as it’s an opportunity to learn how to set prices that reflect the true value of your locally grown cut flowers in a practical, confidence-building session led by Georgie.

The end of the summer season is an ideal time to do this workshop, as you may well be reflecting on your season, what you want to do more or less of next year and how your pricing for 2027 can accurately reflect what your stems are really worth. Whether you are new to flower farming, or experienced and wanting to review your costings, you’d be very welcome to join us.

Pricing is one of the most underestimated challenges in flower farming, and one of the most important to get right. This workshop takes you through how to value every element of what you produce: the time you invest, the ground you cultivate, the blooms you grow, and the conditioning work that makes your flowers last.

Georgie also covers delivery considerations, customer education, and how the quality of your presentation and aftercare support can justify and enhance your prices.

As demand for locally grown flowers grows, flower farmers who understand their value, and price accordingly, are better placed than ever to build a sustainable business.

Thankyou for taking to to bring up the fact that the new SIC code for flower farming isn’t scheduled to be actioned till 2031! I may be retired by then which will mean my entire career growing cut flowers for sale won’t have existed as far as government / statistics / HMRC / companies house and the ONS are concerned. So what? You say. It’s only statistics. Well if you can imagine what sustainable flower farming might do for the environment then we neeeeed those statistics to count!
