I caught myself doing it again this morning, standing in front of the mirror and trying to remember where that-woman from ten years ago went. It is so easy to look at those perfectly pinned mannequins and think you are the one getting it wrong because your clothes don’t sit like that.

I spent years trying to squeeze into the trends before I realised that the shops aren’t designed for midlife bodies. That is why I started this business, because I wanted clothes that actually work for us.

If you’re tired of Feeling like this about your body, my Take 10% off your first order can really help with styles to suit your midlife shape and for the woman you are now!

It is those mornings when you try on several styles but nothing looks right and you end up wanting to bin the lot.

I’ve spent four and a half years building this boutique from a pile of boxes in my living room, and I still have days where I stare at the mirror and don’t recognise the woman looking back.

On those days, I have to be quite firm with myself so I don’t let a bad outfit ruin my mood.

You currently believe that if you can just get back into that specific pair of trousers from five years ago, you will finally feel like yourself again.

So you keep them right at the front of the wardrobe and every few months, you find yourself hopping and tugging to get your old favourite jeans over your hips before giving up!

I was sorting through some stock recently and found a piece I used to love, but when I tried it on, it just didn’t fit the woman I am today, the one who has built a business from nothing over the last four and a half years.

I know now that your clothes should work for the body you have right now, not act as a daily stick to beat yourself with for changing.

It is much easier to feel confident when you stop fighting your reflection and start choosing styles that actually flatter your shape.

I have put together some new pieces on the website that are cut for real midlife figures.

I’ve spent four and a half years building this business from nothing, and if there is one thing I know, it is how to dress for a pub lunch or a quick catch up when you’re feeling a bit self-conscious about your middle. The criteria for these pieces is simple: they have to offer enough room for you to actually sit down and enjoy a biscuit without feeling like your waistband is cutting you in half, while still looking like you’ve made an effort.

My first pick is a soft button knit. This works because it has batwing sleeves which completely conceal the arm area if that is a spot you’re worried about.

Pair it with barrel trousers. They are cut specifically to conceal the tummy area nicely, giving you a stylish shape without anything clinging to your skin. You can sit, chat, and reach for your mug without that frantic hunt for a long cardigan to cover up. It’s about dressing the woman you are right now, not the one you were ten years ago.

You don’t have to settle for the loose black tunic for the third time this week to hide your tummy.

After 4.5 years in business, I’ve seen so many women get stuck in the cycle of buying a size up just so the fabric won’t touch their skin.

Here is what I look for instead.

An elasticated waistband.
It gives you the comfort you’re craving when you’re sitting down at the pub, but it keeps the shape of the garment so you don’t look like you’re wearing a tent.

A cotton top that can be nipped in at the waist.
Instead of drowning in fabric, use a soft cotton that lets you create a slight tuck. It draws the eye to your waist rather than focusing on the tummy area.

Natural fabrics.
Cotton and quality blends move with you, so you aren’t constantly hopping and tugging to get things sitting right.

It’s about dressing the woman you are right now, not the one you think you have to hide.

I am not going to apologise for choosing comfort over everything else.

I have spent years building this business from nothing, and if there is one thing I have learnt about us midlife women, it is that we are done with being uncomfortable.

I want the whole look. I am talking barrel leg or wide leg trousers that give my thighs some breathing room and a simple pair of trainers for getting things done.

I add a simple top but use the French tuck at the side to elevate the look. It is classy, very wearable, and it means I can sit through a long lunch without secretly unbuttoning my waist under the table.

I used to think being stylish meant being restricted, but now I know better.

It is about dressing for the body you have right now, not the one you had ten years ago.

When we stop fighting the fabric, we start feeling like ourselves again.

Watch til the end! For my ladies who love the leg kick! Xx

After four and a half years of styling women and building this business from my kitchen table, I have learnt that speed doesn’t have to mean settling for that loose black tunic again.

First, I would grab my barrel leg trousers. They have an elasticated waist which is a total lifesaver when you are feeling a bit bloated or just don’t want anything digging into your middle while you are out.

The shape is clever because it gives you room around the thighs but tapers in, so you look put together rather than just covered up. They work whether you are tall or on the shorter side too.

I would pair them with a cotton top with short or 3/4 sleeves. It is the easiest way to cover the tops of your arms without feeling like you are overheating. The fabric stays crisp and doesn’t cling to your tummy when you sit down for a coffee or a glass of w**e.

Pop on your favourite trainers, a bit of lippy, and you are out the door looking like you actually tried.

After 4.5 years of building this business from nothing, I have spent a lot of time listening to women who feel like they are hiding behind their clothes instead of wearing them.

1. Use a simple side tuck to draw the eye away from the tummy area. Instead of pulling your top straight down, tuck a small section into your waistband at the side. It creates a diagonal line that breaks up the widest part of your middle.

2. Look for floaty sleeves to hide midlife tops of arms. A little movement in the fabric means it won’t cling.

3. Pick wide leg trousers to hide tops of thighs. They skim the leg and create a straight silhouette from the hip down, which stops that hopping and tugging struggle we all do with skinny jeans.

It is never that your body has failed, you just needed the right cut for the woman you are today.
