This Highgate house won a RIBA award and every September it opens its doors for Open House. We were asked to replace the resin floor across its living level.
6 Wood Lane, designed by Birds Portchmouth Russum Architects, is one of the most unusual homes in North London. The upper floor was built like a boat, from cold-moulded plywood over timber ribs, then craned onto a masonry base cut into the hillside. It's beautiful, but a lightweight timber structure moves, and poured resin does not forgive movement.
So everything depended on what went underneath. We laid 22mm No More Ply cement board across all 37m². On top of that went an epoxy scratch coat with fibreglass mesh, then 4mm of liquid rubber crumb underlay, and finally the D60 poured resin in RAL 7035. We sampled two shades against the original floor before the client made the call.
Our favourite part is where the rubber layer earns its keep. The living space sits directly above the bedrooms, so absorbing footfall noise mattered as much as the look.
One continuous floor runs from the kitchen, through the WC and across the landing. No thresholds, no trims, no grout lines.
