Women's Home Defence badge.
Formed in 1941 by Dr. Edith Summerskill, M.P. for Fulham West London, who had the nickname"Flossie Bang Bang." They trained women to use weapons and advocated for armed women in the Home Guard. The WHD had 250 units and was finally recognised by the War Office in April 1943, but for support services only. They did not wear uniform but had the badge and an armband.
