Now is an excellent time to be composting, with garden harvests and the autumn leaf fall providing plentiful supply of materials for your compost bin.
Layer green, nitrogen rich materials (vegetable scraps, grass clippings) and brown, carbon rich materials (dry leaves, scraps of cardboard, small prunnings).
Your compost bin likes:
Partial Shade
Aeration (turn once or twice a month as introducing oxygen helps the microorganisms break down the material).
A composting accelerator, such as Westland Garotta Compost Maker sprinkled between each new layer speeds up decomposition.
⚠️ Resist adding too many leaves. Instead, create leaf mould! Bag up leaves and set aside. Add this to your compost when you’re short on brown matter.
