Difficult times for the cruising industry, particularly my beloved P&O and Carnival. And I'm so sad to see that Fred Olsen's beautiful Boudicca and Black Watch were retired last month. I've had some wonderful trips on both. They were both 'my kind of ships', ie small and intimate.

But things move on and now Fred Olsen welcomes the Boulette (named after Fred Olsen Jr's great great grandmother, wife of the original Fred Olsen) which was the Holland America ss Amsterdam, and the Borealis, formerly the ss Rotterdam. I was due to sail in Boudicca next October with my sister to the Azores, Bermuda and Cuba. Boulette will now take over all Boudicca's cruises and Borealis all of Black Watch's.

May they both have fair winds and calm seas and become as much loved as their predecessors.
