Rare Reel-to-Reel Tape Find?! Vintage BASF LPR35 – Fleetwood Mac
I recently picked up a job lot of vintage reel-to-reel tapes, including BASF LH Professional / LPR35 reels — and some of them are seriously intriguing
A couple are labeled “Fleetwood Mac” and “The Best of the Carpenters,” which suggests these could be home recordings from vinyl, radio broadcasts, or possibly even studio or demo transfers. Back in the day, reel-to-reel tapes like these were one of the highest-quality ways to record and store audio, long before digital formats took over.
BASF (a major German audio tape manufacturer) was known for producing professional-grade magnetic tape used in studios, broadcasting, and by serious audiophiles. The LPR35 in particular is still respected today for its sound quality and durability.
What makes this find exciting is the mystery — are these personal mixtapes, rare recordings, or something more unique? There’s only one way to find out… I’ll need to play them back carefully and see what’s actually recorded on these reels.
If you’re into vintage audio, analogue sound, or music history, this is the kind of discovery that makes collecting so addictive
Stay tuned — I might have uncovered something special.
