Full on with the flowers again! It’s been so relaxing and very grounding making beautiful bouquets like these ‘Thank You’ bunches (made three in total) in super pretty lilacs and delicate pink.
I just love the lisianthus, their colour reminded me of Parma Violets.

Morning everyone.
Thought I would share why I’ve been a little quiet this week.

I don’t normally mix my personal life with my floristry life but today I must share something with you all since one has affected the other.

Some of you may have heard about the accident which occurred this week in Ferryhill where a young man has tragically died.
Sean was part of a motorcycle club which my daughter is also a member of. Lily was with Sean that night as his pillion passenger, they were on their way to Thinford.

The circumstances of how the accident happened are still unclear, there are numerous rumours on various pages on Facebook. The police will conduct a thorough investigation after reviewing all of the evidence and speaking to all witnesses. Until their findings are made public anything written on these pages is purely speculation, their findings will be the official outcome.

Lily spent five hours in theatre under the care of her wonderful consultant, David Fender.
She is now recovering.

This week I’ve used a different supplier than usual, apologies if you’ve noticed a difference in quality. Everything will be back to normal (florally) next week though. Keeping me busy helps as I find the flowers very relaxing so please keep your orders coming. They are my therapy and help me wind down after hospital visits.

This 4ft long casket spray contains sunflowers, gerberas, roses, santinis and craspidia along with fresh foliage in a multitude of colours.

Sunflowers were once grown by the deceased in the garden he shared with his lovely wife. She fondly remembered the flowers they grew every summer so chose to use them in his memory.
His funeral took place yesterday in Ferryhill.

SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES Part One

Welcome to La Fleur and for those of you who don’t know let me explain a few of the things practiced to be a little more environmentally friendly. I’m not 100% there yet, I probably never will be but I’m doing as much as I can to do my bit.

* All of the green waste materials are collected to be composted, providing nutrition for my plants the following year.

* Leaves and petals from badly damaged, dying or left over flowers are air dried and turned into wedding confetti or dried flower arrangements.

* Our bouquets are wrapped in recycled / recyclable paper, cellophane wrapping is made from a plant based polymer and I will no longer put stickers onto the bouquet bags so you can reuse them, maybe to give someone a gift.

* I don’t use poly ribbon preferring to use fabric ribbons which you could reuse elsewhere.

* Jolly Jars use jars that were destined for the recycling bin or worse still, landfill. Flowers that are left over from other projects or slightly damaged flowers are used in the jars as a way to reduce waste.
