What a great turnout it was at the Think Parrots Show yesterday! Psittacus, Zoo Med and Bird Systems were represented by AviNature uk ltd. It’s always amazing to see more people understanding the benefits that a good diet and UV brings to your birds.

We were rushed off our feet so didn’t get a chance to take any other photos, but if you were there and took any we’d love to see them in the comments!

☀ UV light is proven to play a vital role in your birds every day life and is essential to keep them happy and healthy. Here's why...

- UVA allows them to see in their full colour spectrum which improves their mental wellbeing, helps them to select food and helps to identify and interact with other birds

- UVB is required in birds to produce Vitamin D3. Vitamin D3 improves calcium metabolism to ensure healthy bones and optimal feather condition. Vitamin D deficiencies are one of the most reported deficiencies in captive parrots

- There is evidence showing that providing suitable UV light can improve feather plucking

Normal glass blocks certain ultraviolet rays so indoor birds receive no benefit from the natural UV in sunlight, even if they are next to a window. There are many options available to provide your bird with the UV they need depending on their enclosure
