Little Joys 💫

These little circles of paper have been therapeutic lately, I have painted a few, some individual ideas, others a collection in a collection with my favourite things to use; gold, vintage sheet music and gold paint with my favourite subjects some re imagined from other work 🐰🦉🦊🐦‍⬛

Little moments of peace for me and I hope you see that in them too, they are wistful, whimsical and wee, measuring 13cm in diameter 😌

Weird that I should have felt like painting the past weeks but maybe not, painting is a happy place, safe place and dipping into these brought moments of joy 😌

The originals will be framed and off on home finding adventures in various locations…more on that soon…and I will be gold foiling giclee fine art prints of these too 💫

I’ve enjoyed them and I hope you do too 🥰

Wishing you calm and happy days ❤️ JP x

Ps. Second pic is an original placed in the circular double mounts that are waiting for them, so a bit not central 🫣 until the originals come back to me from the printers and they will be mounted with more accuracy 😅

Work not in progress 🛑

This is probably my most favourite Robin that I’ve painted to date, started a few years ago. This, if you swipe, is one of my favourite photos of my Mum when she came to stay in the forest with us. I painted this one with my Mum in mind, with my Forget Me Not Emma Bridgewater vase because my Mum had Alzheimer’s and vascular dementia 🩵

It was on 21st of August that we said goodbye to a one of a kind lovely Mum who was an equally lovely Nanna to my wonderful girls 💔

I’m not wanting an out pouring of sympathy, we all suffer losses through life but I didn’t feel I could get back to posting joyful content until there was some kind of punctuation and although this is my business page, everything can’t help but overlap sometimes, so here I am posting at an odd time of day and not knowing if it’s the right thing to do.

This one and I do intend to finish it at some point when the time is right, it is very not in progress currently, will be titled, I Know You, something my Mum used to say when she kind of recognised someone but her grey matter wouldn’t help her out with a name or more clues 🩵

I’m doing the grief thing now that I’m not quite sure how to do and that’s different for everyone. For me, I painted a small painting each day for the 6 days after. They helped and I know painting will continue to help.

Give all your favourite people a hug, your appreciation and go grab life by the wotsits because that’s what I’ll be doing, life is too short, people ❤️ JP x

Proud Tailors 🧵

Finding an old English name for goldfinches gave me the idea of painting them with a vintage child’s sewing machine, that I bought a while back ❤️

Goldfinches were given the nickname Proud Tailor because of their multi coloured, patchwork suit that looked like it had been stitched by a proud, well dressed tailor. How lovely is that! 🥰

Wonderful reference photos are from the amazing Andreas │ Birds, Wildlife, Nature who gave me permission 🙏🏼 Thank you!

Sewing machine, I think, came from Karen Lesley Vintage and we’re talking a pre Covid purchase so the small Comet machine has been in my bookcase waiting to be painted for some time! I’m glad these findings, things and thoughts came together at last, the red tin of the sewing machine base matches the tiny tailors perfectly and I’m sure they’ll have the workings out all figured out soon and will be sewing up a storm….or maybe more colourful little suits 🥰

I’m hoping for the weather to settle in the uk soon 🥵 some rain would be very nice and next week does look promising so hopefully 🤞

Have a lovely weekend 🥰 JP x

Ps swipe to see new arrivals here, maybe not all keepers but maybe another sewing machine painting sometime just hopefully it won’t take 6 plus years to happen 😂

As yet untitled! 🖤

I’ve loved the reference photo for this magpie painting for years and I’d been wanting to paint it and with a ‘lil Vinted purchase of a few vintage tins in jewel-like colours it happened. I love the emerald green and reds on these tins so you can see the tester blobs to get the green just right 💫 Reference for the string of pearls are from those made by the lovely Blantons ❤️ Also an edit to the tin on the right so it can be two for joy too 💫💫 I do not enjoy painting flowers, the tin was quite floral, so a happy swap 😂

I’ve talked about before that I love when connections are made through my paintings 🥰 I had lots of conversations when painting this one and learned that young magpies pretty much look the same as adult birds, they just have shorter tails 🤷‍♀️

One conversation with a lovely lady recently about our shared love of vintage haberdashery, vintage sewing machines and what we had in our collections happened when I was painting the Darling Buds ☺️ We had quite a chat and by the time we’d said our goodbyes I think we knew we’d met someone who was very much enchanted by the same kind of treasure 🥰 A couple of weeks passed and a parcel addressed to me arrived, with a note and two perfect additions for my collection (swipe to see the vintage cotton reel drawers and coat hanger 😍)

Yes, there were tears! I was blown away by the kindness, generosity and the fact that our chat had resulted in this random act of kindness 🥰Completely blessed and grateful and the 12 year old in me that wanted to be an artist when they grew up …well, hold onto those dreams is all I can say 🥰

Thank you Sue B**r this meant so much 🫶

Prints of this one, that will have a title soon, will be available in the next week or so 💫

Any ideas for titles? Pop them in the comments, please 🙏🏼 Tin Tiptoe? 😅

A three year work in progress 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Yep, that long 😂 I had tucked this one away as had lost direction with it, it was started around the time of Musicale and was going to be in a similar vein but somehow the thing that needed to keep me gripped was too tenuous and it got wrapped up and stored behind a bureau 🫣 When I was tidying for farOpen Art Trail & Artists open studios the bureau got moved and this one saw the light of day again ☀️

I’m hoping I have a light bulb moment and it can progress 🤔 I’ve been so lucky to see the most majestic stags here in the forest, they are so regal, real heart stopping moments that don’t happen often but are etched in my memories so clearly ☺️

So we will see! For the time being he is back behind the bureau 🫣 Sorry fella 😂 But he is ba ck in my mind and the cogs are whirring on how he might be completed so for now I will take that as a win 💃🏼

Lots of my more recent work is in exhibition at Charlotte Keating Art Gallery Newent in the Wonderland Exhibition in Newent, Gloucestershire so pop in and take a look if you’re in the area, it’s a wonderful theme and a celebration of wonderful things 💫

Happy weekend ☀️ JP x

Paper Boat Captain 💙

Exciting times for this one as he will soon be on a voyage with some paper friends to Charlotte Keating Art Gallery Newent for an exhibition titled Wonderland 💫

It’s a most perfect theme for me and I’m very pleased to be chosen, along with some of the most amazing creatives to be showing in the beautiful space that Charlotte curates in the charming market town of Newent ☺️

The last available piece of the blue and gold on the olive wood blocks for now and I found some ship shape quotes that suited this bobbing barn owl very well 🌙

There will be a selection of originals available as well as things little and useful by me and it’s sure to be a delight to visit 💫 Swipe to see details, location and dates 👀

The weeks are definitely not slowing down…how can it be nearly August? 🤪 Anyone else feel like the months are whizzing by?? 😂

Have a happy weekend 💫 JP ❤️

The Darling Buds 🐌…. who are not all fitting into view 😅

I wasn’t sure I’d have anything ready for today, it’s been a very busy and very wonderful couple of weeks leading up to, taking part in farOpen Art Trail & Artists art trail, where this one was the work in progress and then making up for time off in Urchins Gallery this week 😅

I also wasn’t sure I’d finish this one at all either 🫣 after working from left to right painting the birds, they seemed a bit never ending 😂 so yesterday morning I told myself to take a break from the birds and paint the raggedy ribbon and the butterflies and in between those details, painting the last bird happened 🥳

Kind of a Laundry Day 2, see the original Laundry Day in the swipes but inspired by the purchase of a vintage coat hanger that is now a small collection of three 😅 I love anything with lettering on, vintage advertising pieces and these gorgeous hangers fit the bill, I even found one with my name on 😂

When I was working on this one in Urchins Gallery yesterday a visitor noticed and said she was sure she had the same hanger and was also a Long Tails fan 😅 What are the chances! 🌟

The Darling Buds is a temporary name but what do you think? Should it stick? 🤔

It’s very nearly finished, a bit of tidying and tweaking to do before it’s complete and of course there is a snail! 🐌

My thanks go to Uschi Arens Price and the farOpen Art Trail & Artists team who do an incredible job of planning and organising such a wonderful opportunity for the artists and makers to show their work to visitors on the art trail 🙌🥰 You are brilliant 🤩

Phew a long one today! Or perhaps it’s a normal length ramble 😂
Wishing you happy days 🥰 JP x

Unfolding Story 📖

This one has been capturing hearts and the mounted prints have been finding homes this farOpen Art Trail & Artists art trail 🥰

With verses on the vessel that are me talking to my younger self, this little hare adrift in her paper boat has resonated with visitors 🥰

With some of my paintings I tell their stories but with this one it seems sometimes I don’t have to, people have stood and quietly read and then purchased, to gift to a loved one or keep for themselves and that makes my heart sing (sorry for the slush, I’m an emotional bean 😂)

The verses didn’t come to me as easily as the paper boat owls, no where near but the lovely and very talented local author Sarah Colliver helped me to hone the words and helped it to flow ❤️ Thank you Sarah 🙏🏼

We are into the last three days of the art trail at studio 2️⃣8️⃣ and we have had a blast 💥 I have so enjoyed being surrounded by the work of Blantons Derek Lamb FusedintheForest and Johanna Sterrick and their company has been a delight 🥰 We would love to share our passion for creating and our inspiration with you and I know it’s super hot but we will ply you with cold drinks, fans will be whirring and there are shady areas for you to sit and stay out of the sun to make your visit as comfortable as possible 🥰 With 55 studios to visit and beautiful makes for any budget hop on the trail if you can and support local artists and makers, we would love to see you! 💫

Wip for the farOpen Art Trail & Artists art trail 2026 starting tomorrow Saturday 4th until 12th July 🥳

Am I ready for this? No 🫣 but my team is arriving throughout the day to set up and everything will look beautiful for visitors tomorrow morning 💫

My work in progress for this year is a reworking of Laundry Day, my original coat hanger birds and I did think about other kinds of birds but nothing else worked in my head so yay, more long tails! 😅

I am sharing my home, studio and garden for open studios with Blantons Derek Lamb FusedintheForest and Johanna Sterrick all very talented creatives and we can’t wait to share the story of how we create our work and our inspirations! 💫

I’m sure some of my inspiration will be hopping and chirping in the garden as a welcome party! 🐦‍⬛

We are open every day 10-4pm and all details are on the farOpen Art Trail & Artists website for locations and maps, come and say hello! 👋🏼

Happy weekend to you! 🥳 JP x ❤️
