Magic Nocturne 💫

It is time for this one to say hello as he is one of my three chosen images in the farOpen Art Trail & Artists art trail brochure for 2026 🥳

Magic Nocturne features text from The Secret Garden with the friendly robin and Soot the crow and of course the key to that special place 🔑 With text filled ivy leaves and quotes, you know I love a good quote, it was dreamy to create 😌 Painted on the beautiful tworiverspaper 💫

“Magic is always pushing and drawing and making things out of nothing. Everything is made out of magic, leaves and trees, flowers and birds, badgers and foxes and squirrels and people. So it must be all around us.”
Frances Hodgson Burnett ❤️

When I saw the image of the fox photographed by Jane Huntley I had to ask to use it as a reference 😍 The pose that Jane captured was just sublime, the paws nonchalantly placed, the look in fox’s eyes were just perfect and Jane very kindly said yes 🥰 Thank you so much, Jane 🙏🏼

Swipe to see a few progress pics and the scary early stages 🫣😂

The brochure page also features the talented creatives who are sharing my home and studio with me this year to show a smorgasbord of delights, with jewellery by Blantons 💫 pottery by .lamb 💫 fused glass by FusedintheForest 💫and ceramics by Johanna Sterrick 💫 at Studio 28 on the trail ➡️

All details of this years farOpen Art Trail & Artists art trail are on the FarOpen website with the event running from 4th -12th July there’s not long to go! We are all trying not to panic and working hard to make it a wonderful and inspiring experience for visitors and we’d love to see you! 😍

Happy weekend! I’ll be mainly tidying again 🤣 JP x❤️

An oldie but one that’s going to be back in print after some new sized mounts I had cut fit it nicely … I love a happy accident 😅

I thought it deserved a little reshare after one of the newly mounted and framed “Little Things” sold to a lovely lady in Urchins Gallery recently ☺️

Said lady patiently listened as I rambled through what each painted “little” was, it’s story if it had one and the mice, Bramble and Barley… it was quite a long ramble 😂

This was one of my lockdown pieces painted in May 2020, which feels like a lifetime ago now but it’s one I’m very pleased got painted 🥰

My collection of “Little Things”, has grown since then but all of these pieces found a home in my printers tray which I would show you but it needs a dust 😂

Happy Friday 🥰 JP x

Amidst the Chaos 💫⚡️✨

You’re probably all pretty much aware of my obsession with painting birds but I also have an obsession with wooden drawers and the more drawers is definitely the merrier 😂 We have a little house so this drawer thing has to be held in check somewhat 😂 Swipe and see my little collection so far 😅

Anyhoo, I thought I should paint something to honour this obsession, so Amidst the Chaos came to be 💫 With two drawers from the oxo cabinet that has 76 drawers, mostly made of oxo tins and a black drawer from my very possibly a vintage seed cabinet in a former life and some of the bits and bobs that have found homes in the 66 drawers are three mischievous long tailed t**s, in the chaos of found and useful things ⚡️I love a limited palette and these birds worked so well with the tin, wooden and painted surfaces and even the vintage card with an image of a LTT egg that is just the right shade of speckled rust 🤎

It’s honestly a bit of a nightmare trying to find anything, going through so many drawers to find the pencil sharpener drawer can be a tad challenging but I can put up with those kinds of issues for units with this many drawers and I’ll eventually get around to labelling those drawers one day which will help greatly 😂

Each of the prints has a quote written in pencil which says; “In the midst of chaos, there is also opportunity.” — Sun-tzu
Which I could relate to because when I’m looking for the pencil sharpener drawer I often find other things I’d forgotten about 😂

Next event up is .artists open studios in July and I’m taking part at home so the month of June is Operation Tidy Up, wish me luck with the chaos here 🫣😂

Happy weekend all 💫 JP ❤️

Me, completely awkward and hating having my photo taken for a meet the maker shot, hot and tired but grateful and loving life behind my stand Craft Fair last weekend ☀️

This unusual and rare post of me comes with a huge thank you to Sara and the amazing team that made this event run so smoothly despite the challenges of last weekends heatwave 🔥

You are all amazing ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

To the lovely people that stopped to chat, told me their story of why my work resonated with them and purchased, to the son that secretly purchased a print after his Mum had fallen in love with Midnight Nocturne but she wasn’t able to buy right then 🫶 We watched and I as he surprised his Mum with the newly wrapped print, they hugged, she cried, we cried 🥹 Moments like that are priceless, golden, just everything and make me feel so grateful for what I am able to create that you just seem to get ❤️

Thank you to Kerry for her company, the unforgettable squirrel screams and the giggles 🤭 🥰

Normal service will resume next week, phew huh! 😂

Happy weekend x JP ❤️

Rule II; Be Yourself 🐦‍⬛

Another beautiful vintage ruler with inlaid brass for this latest bird themed watercolour, which made a handy branch for a nuthatch doing its clever thing of being able to walk down something vertical, while a perky blue tit watches on perfectly happy with himself, just as he is ☺️ and with those floofy blue head feathers so he should be! 💙💛

The Oscar Wilde quote; “Be yourself, everyone else is taken”, seemed to fit with these two yellow and blue birds 😊 I’ve handwritten it on the prints and they are all ready for Craft Fair tomorrow! 😃

I’m also taking a few of my illustrated Observer books too, I hope you like the display idea for these! 😃 Swipe to see 👀

I’m so pleased that Rule I and Rule II will sit side by side in one of the marquees on the castle lawns with their bookish theme 📚For someone that has been painting books for years, it feels like the stars are aligning with this wonderful event and the sun will have his hat on too, even though it’s a bank holiday weekend, Wowzer! 😎

Pop along if you’re looking for something to do, there is going to be an amazing buzz with on too and I’m in great company with a whole host of talented creatives including the lovely as a marquee neighbour! 🐝 JP x ❤️

Bird captures by my nuthatch go to for his characterful shots 🙏🏼 Thank you!

Though She Be Small She is Fierce 🪶

My latest watercolour in my original style was inspired by our garden wrens and robins, books, quotes and vintage….just a few of my favourite things 🥰

A vintage ruler that I came across by the roadside as someone was having a clear out, just a simple thing but well made with embossed lettering shows the scale of these two birds, thereabouts so you can appreciate their size 📏

Our garden wrens take my breath away every time I see them, so tiny but so feisty and our robins never fail to make me smile ☺️

I have handwritten the quote on each of the fine art giclee prints professionally reproduced from the original, a reminder that an unassuming appearance does not dictate someone’s strength, courage, or bravery ☺️

The prints are being framed and double mounted in readiness for craft fair, 23rd to 25th of May and I will have the original with me too for anyone wishing to purchase this one of a kind ❤️

Happy weekend to you 🥰 JP x

Mustardseed 🌼

As a pairing, maybe an unlikely one, for Peaseblossom hare previously posted is Mustardseed fox 🦊 Named from another of Titania’s fairies in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and giving some rather epic side eye, is fox in the daisies 🌼

I’m back to my watercolour paints now but I enjoyed getting out the Inktense watercolour pencils and watching them pop on the handmade cotton rag paper 💫

My favourite colour of these pencils is Bark, which is perfect for softer dark tones when ink black is too strong and when brushed with water works so well for larger areas of fur 🦊

Do you use these pencils? What’s your most favoured colour? 🌈

Mustardseed and Peaseblossom will be two of the new pieces going to Craft Fair on the 23rd to 25th May and there are three more that I dropped off at the printers yesterday that will also be ready in time 💫
All won’t get shared here before the event, May is whizzing by too fast 🚀 so pop by if you can, to get early views of them 👀 It’s going to be a fab event with lots of talented creatives slap bang in the middle of 🎉

Check out the accounts for and for more information on what’s going on in this May 💫

Wishing you a happy weeks always ❤️ JP x

Hello! Ok you got me, this is just a bit of a gap filler post as things went a bit Pete Tong before our planned break to the lovely Isle of Wight and I’m a bit behind with everything 🙃

This is a piece that I started just before we left,
which shows a return to my original style 🐦‍⬛
I didn’t realise how much I missed painting these mostly bird with vintage finds themed watercolours and I’ve really enjoyed stepping back into this world 😌

This one is quite dark, I need to somehow lift it and lighten the mood as it was a difficult few days before we left and I lost myself in this one as a distraction. I often say that art is great therapy and I’m in therapy a lot 😂 but seriously, it completely is my safe place and somewhere to find calm and for that and my family, who held the fort back at home, I am eternally blessed ❤️

We crammed in lots of bird spotting, walking alpacas, good food and beach walks these past few days and even spotted our first red squirrels which was magical! 😃 The sea view from our accommodation was blissful and the blue skies were equally so 💙 Have a swipe for a few pics 📸

I’m not sure this one will make it to Craft Fair 23rd to 25th May but I have two more, one is at proofing stage and one I will get to the printers asap as they make a lovely pair and are more of my favourite birds but paired together this time 💕 I will be posting those soon along with Mustardseed who will accompany Peaseblossom the hare that I posted last 🐰

Have a lovely weekend ❤️ JP x

Peaseblossom 🌼

Peaseblossom Hare, drawn in inktense watercolour pencils and gouache would like to announce a brand new event for 2026! 🥳

I am very excited to be taking part in Craft Fair 23rd to 25th May in Hay-on-Wye, the book capital of Wales and Peaseblossom with quotes from A Midsummer Night’s Dream lying gently around the shape of his ears and the daisies tickling his nose thinks he will feel quite at home there as a fine art print presented in a circular mount 🥰

Peaseblossom is named after one of Queen Titania’s four fairies from William Shakespeare’s enchanting play and I love the quote that popped out from the pages, it seems to fit him perfectly 🥰

I’m thinking of little tags to go on all of the pieces that have quotes, Alice in wonderland style, that say Read Me 📚 because I love it when I hear someone reading the lines and verses out loud, it’s a special thing when people take the time to study the details that I love to add 🥰

Yes, to the Read Me tags, do you think? 🤔

So I am thrilled and feeling quite humbled to be chosen to be part of such an amazing array of talented creatives at the Hay Castle event, it’s going to be quite a long weekend and one worth a trip out, for sure! 🥳

Taking part are .hay .flowers_maker .jewellery .co.uk .welsh.honey and original resin design 💫

Hare reference image with kind permission from 🙏🏼❤️

Wishing you a happy weekend as always ❤️ JP x

Peeks at upcoming work today with noses and toeses!🦶

After recently packing the original puffin sketch off to it’s forever home, it got me hunting here for more of the beautiful golden caramel coloured handmade rag paper I had drawn him on and getting out the Derwent inktense pencils that are my favourites 🧡

Two new faces appeared, more on those soon and then I had a hankering to paint a wren, in my more traditional style that will always call to me ☺️ I’m holding off on revealing these as I’m waiting to announce a new event for me at the end of May and I think they will tie in nicely to it 😀 Hopefully not too much longer and then the noses and toeses will have eyes, ears and whiskers for you to see💫

Isn’t that surface just like paper sunshine? ☀️ Have you had sunny days this week? 🌞

Happy weekend 😘 JP x
