MEET FOLK & FLORA 🌿: The heart of Vanessa’s new Modern Folk Collection, Folk & Flora began with hand-drawn flowers and paper cut-outs, which Vanessa arranged and rearranged before creating the final repeat.

Trailing flowers and leaves form a wide decorative stripe, sitting alongside a narrower stripe of simple leaf motifs. Full of the character and charm that first drew Vanessa to traditional folk art, it’s a lovely starting point for mixing the patterns of the collection.

Shown here in its different colourways, from softer raspberry and peach to fresh greens and blues.

1) Folk & Flora - Soft Raspberry, Woad & Indigo
2) Folk & Flora - Soft Peach, Very Soft Duck Egg, Smoke
3) Folk & Flora - Woad, Aqua & Indigo
4) Folk & Flora - Lovat, Avocado & Dark Avocado
5) Folk & Flora - Indigo
6) Folk & Flora - Smoke
7) Folk & Flora - Avocado
8) Folk & Flora - Aqua

🍹 MAKE THE MOST OF LATE SUMMER: There is still plenty of summer left to enjoy — morning coffee in the garden, lunch in the sunshine, or supper outside while the evenings are still light.

A few simple fabric touches can make outdoor spaces feel instantly more inviting:

🌼 Add cushions to a garden bench
🌿 Throw a patterned Linen Union cloth over the table
🌸 Mix in colourful napkins for alfresco meals
☀️ Bring out a throw or floor cushions when friends gather
🎏 Hang a little bunting for extra summer cheer

Vanessa’s nature-inspired designs feel especially at home outdoors, surrounded by flowers, foliage and all the lovely colours of the garden.

Our made-to-measure service can also create bench cushions and other pieces to suit your space, so you can enjoy these last warm weeks in comfort and colour.

And when the British weather inevitably changes its mind, simply bring your fabrics back inside.

FIVE SIMPLE WAYS TO USE WALLPAPER 🌿: Wallpaper is one of the easiest ways to change the feeling of a room, bringing colour, softness and pattern to walls in a way that paint alone can’t quite achieve.

In this video, our interior design consultant Tania shows how she pairs a delicate, nature-inspired wallpaper with different fabric patterns to create a relaxed, layered scheme.

Her key piece of advice? Keep your colour palette limited, then have fun mixing pattern and scale.
A few more ideas for using wallpaper at home:

1) Start small – hallways, cloakrooms and downstairs loos are lovely places to be a little more adventurous with pattern.
2) Look beyond the walls – try wallpaper inside a bookcase, cupboard or wardrobe for an unexpected glimpse of colour.
3) Try a single wall – behind a bed, sofa or dining table, one wallpapered wall can completely change the atmosphere of a room.
4) Mix wallpaper with fabric – choose complementary prints in different scales to create a relaxed rather than overly matched look.
5) Always order a sample – seeing colour and pattern in your own light makes choosing so much easier.

You can order up to five free wallpaper samples through our website, or browse the full collection for more ideas. Click link in bio.

☀️ KEEPING YOUR HOME COOL DURING A HEATWAVE: When temperatures rise, it's often the simplest changes that make the biggest difference. Closing your blinds before the sun reaches your windows can help prevent heat from building up indoors, keeping rooms more comfortable throughout the day.

If you're choosing new blinds, a made to measure Roman or roller blind with a laminated or blackout lining can help reflect the sun's warmth, while a precise fit reduces gaps where heat can creep in. Lighter-coloured fabrics are another good choice for sunny, south-facing rooms.

Every one of our made to measure blinds is handcrafted in the UK using Vanessa's nature-inspired fabrics and made to fit your windows perfectly.

THE TIMELESS APPEAL OF STRIPES 🦓: There are some patterns that never lose their appeal, and stripes are certainly one of them. Fresh, timeless and wonderfully versatile, they have a way of bringing balance and quiet character to a room, while sitting happily alongside florals, botanicals and checks.

Here are four simple ways to decorate with stripes:

1. Add texture with woven stripes: Woven stripes bring softness and subtle texture to upholstery, curtains, blinds and cushions. Their relaxed, understated look works beautifully in both traditional and contemporary homes. To see our full woven collection, click here: https://www.vanessaarbuthnott.co.uk/collections/woven/

2. Embrace the charm of printed stripes: Printed stripes (such as our Stockholm Stripe bed canopy) have a character all of their own, from bold and decorative to quiet and understated. Our hand block printed designs celebrate traditional craftsmanship, with the gentle variations left by the hand-carved blocks giving every length of fabric its own warmth and individuality.

3. Don't forget the walls: Striped wallpaper is a wonderfully simple way to add height and structure to a room (bedroom wallpaper: Spotty Stripe). Vertical stripes naturally draw the eye upwards, creating a calm backdrop that feels elegant without ever overpowering the space. To see all our wallpapers and wall coverings, click here: https://www.vanessaarbuthnott.co.uk/wallpapers-and-coverings/

4. Bring stripes underfoot: Our striped rugs and runners are woven from 100% British wool by a family-run mill in Wales. Beautiful, hardwearing and full of character, they're designed to be enjoyed every day while adding warmth and texture throughout the home. To see all our rugs and runners, click here: https://www.vanessaarbuthnott.co.uk/rugs-and-stair-runners/

Whether woven, printed or used on walls and floors, stripes remain one of the easiest patterns to decorate with—bringing a timeless sense of order while allowing other prints and colours to shine. ☀️ A FRESH NEW FEEL FOR SUMMER: As the light changes, our homes naturally begin to feel different too. Summer is a lovely time to make a few thoughtful updates, and it doesn't have to mean redecorating an entire room. Often, it's the smallest changes that make the biggest difference.

Here are three simple ways to bring a fresh new feel to your home this summer:

1. Choose colours inspired by the season:Soft greens, warm buttery yellows, gentle duck egg blues and delicate pinks all help to brighten a room while keeping it calm and welcoming. Nature-inspired prints bring these colours together beautifully.

2. Layer in natural textures:Our Linen and Linen Union fabrics have a softness that's just right for summer. Whether it's a Roman blind, a pair of curtains or a simple tablecloth, natural fabrics allow light to filter gently through a room, creating a relaxed, airy feel.

3. Refresh with made to measure:A new blind, beautifully made curtains or a handful of cushions can completely change the feel of a space. Our made to measure service makes it easy to choose your favourite fabric, style and finish, with every piece crafted especially for your home by our trusted makers here in the UK.
