DairyLight

DairyLight DairyLight is a groundbreaking spectrum LED lighting system, proven to help boost dairy herd profits.

Our LED spectrum lighting system helps to regulate the circadian rhythm (body clock) in mammals by exposing them to a continuous and specific spectrum and intensity of light for 16-18 hours per day. This mimicks the daylight benefits of being outdoors on a bright mid-summer day which optimises feed uptake, milk production and fertility, and improves general wellbeing. This is followed by a period of 6-8 hours darkness where the body naturally rests, recovers and heals. Scientifically tested and proven, DairyLight typically increases milk yields by 8-11%, often paying for itself in 4-7 months.

Hope Farm in Cheshire invested in their shed lighting.

The automatic red light comes on for 8 hours after a 16-hour blue-enriched light period which completes a natural 24-hour light cycle.

Cows need darkness to produce melatonin, which is vital for their immune system, rest, and overall health.

Turning on standard white lights for a night calving check or barn walkthrough disrupts their sleep cycle.

Installing red lights solves this challenge - cows can’t see red light, enabling critical night checks to be made seamlessly without disturbing the herd.

Based at Miresdale Dairy, Northallerton, Geoff runs a 900-head dairy herd.

“We initially installed lighting in half the shed, then quickly completed the second half after seeing the results,” says Geoff.

“The improvement in cow fertility has been quite phenomenal.”

Now is the time to plan ahead for the darker months to avoid any drops in milk production and fertility rates.

Good ventilation is about more than keeping cows cool 🐄

By improving airflow and maintaining a steadier shed temperature, the right ventilation systems can help prevent issues such as disease and yield dips .

Watch the video to see how ventilation can bring many benefits to your herd.

Could the lighting in your shed be holding your herd back?🐄💡

DairyLight delivers blue-enriched white light specifically for cows at the right intensity to support their natural circadian rhythm by helping regulate melatonin levels.

With 16 - 18 hours of day lighting, DairyLight can help fertility, milk production and overall cow performance by influencing key hormones such as IGF-1 and prolactin.

Typically older buildings, that are now housing livestock, were designed for different housing needs. By undertaking a ventilation audit, you can assess airflow using tools such as smoke tests so that modifications can be retrofitted to improve the environment.

Continuous extreme heat this summer will have tested all ventilation systems.

Throughout the rest of the summer period keep watch for signs of heat stress in your herd.

Effective ventilation systems should eliminate heat stress and moisture by delivering high-velocity, automated airflow directly across the cow zone.

Now is the time to check your ventilation systems and contact us if you want to learn more about our systems.

Heat stress can affect cows before the signs become obvious.

AHDB highlights this as a growing challenge for dairy herds, with warm, humid conditions putting pressure on cow comfort, intakes and welfare.

Waiting until cows are panting, standing for longer or bunching together means the pressure is already there.

Good ventilation can help reduce heat build-up in sheds and support cows through warmer weather.
