🧠 Our latest article is LIVE, and this is an important one. 💜
We all know that eating too much added sugar isn’t great for our waistlines, teeth or metabolic health. But what about our brains? 🧠🍰
For World Alzheimer’s Month, we’ve taken a deeper look at the emerging research around sugar and dementia. One large UK study following more than 172,000 people found that higher total sugar intake was associated with a 29% higher risk of developing dementia, while higher free-sugar intake was associated with a 25% higher risk. The research can’t prove that sugar itself caused dementia, but alongside what we already know about Type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance and brain health, the evidence is increasingly pointing in the same direction: eating too much added sugar is not good for our long-term brain health. 🧠🍰
We also explore why Alzheimer’s has sometimes been unofficially called “Type 3 diabetes”, the fascinating connection between our sense of smell and early cognitive decline 👃🧠, and most importantly, the everyday things we can all do to give our brains the best chance of staying healthy as we age. 🚶♀️🥗😴
