Established over 100 years ago, Claygate shops have not only survived, they've flourished, as businesses in surrounding local centres have shrunk and disappeared in the face of relentless growth of characterless shopping malls and supermarkets. Offering a very personal service, our local shops cater for almost every need, both everyday and more specialised - you can do virtually all your shopping in one relaxing go, with none of the impersonal frenzy of big supermarkets. or town centre shopping. You're very likely to bump into people you know and have time for a chat, perhaps a relaxing coffee, in the time you save from driving to places farther afield. Using your local shops, rather than the larger, out of town supermarkets is a great way of supporting our vibrant community in these trouble economic times: its a recognition of the interdependence of local residents and business owners. working together, now and in the future, we can guarentee that Claygate will remain the very special place it is today. Individually, our shops are striving to be even more attractive; to offer even better personal service; to whet the appetites of Clayagte people and, indeed, of those living in neighbouring areas who are less fortunate than we Claygatians in having such great shops in the very heart of our community.
