A superior copy of Tales of the Grotesque by L A Lewis, published in 1934 by Philip Allan. This is one of my favourite collections of weird tales which includes the superb ‘Tower of Moab.’ published a collection of Tales inspired by this volume called ‘Grotesqueries.’ I was fortunate enough to illustrate it.

The Pale Ape by M P Shiel, first state, first printing. This is a fascinating association copy which contains neatly written notes possibly by critic Wilfred Hugh Chesson regarding a conversation he had with Shiel about the genesis of a few of the stories in this collection. The note may also have been written by John Gawsworth referencing the meeting between the two men. Curiously the endpapers have been replaced with fitting green marbled papers. A selection of weird decadent tales including the shocking tale ‘The Bride’

The Diary of a Drug Fiend by Crowley, first edition, first printing in the original 7/6 net jacket. A copy recently went for a record price, I would argue it’s as rare as any of the early Agatha Christie Collins titles. NFS

Just in, sci-fi classics The Day of the Triffids and The Kraken Wakes by John Wyndham. First printings, unclipped. Triffids is lovely and bright, Kraken has some foxing but considering it usually turns up looking like it’s falling to bits, this is a decent copy. DM if interested. -fibooks

Some recent arrivals here including a supernatural grail THE ELIXIR OF LIFE, not only has it appeared for the first time in 25 years trading, but it has manifested in exceptionally fine condition, which considering the cloth colour is remarkable . “Innocent lovers caught up in machinations of ancient evil which survives on draughts of eternity bought at the price of human sacrifice.’ Robert Knowlton, praised too by Lovecraft in his essay on Supernatural fiction.

Witch Wood by John Buchan, first edition 1927 in the scarce 7/6 jacket. Full of supernaturalism and witchcraft set in the ancient Black Forest of Woodilee, Scotland. Satanic rites and witchcraft abound and this atmospheric, haunting novel. According to the historian Ronald Hutton, it was based upon the Witch-cult hypothesis of the anthropologist Margaret Murray.
