Most of the items we have are made from traditional West-African wax fabrics. I love these fabrics for two main reasons: the bright colours and vibrant patterns never cease to put a smile on my face, and each fabric has a (more often that not unknown) meanings - a societal issue or concept it represents and values that it is thought to bring to the owner.

I first discovered this at the African Textiles museum in Benin (see photo).
To give one example, this bag and picture use "Fleurs de mariage"/"Wedding Flowers", sometimes called "“Rolls Royce” or “Mgbolodi”. This fabric symbolises the beauty of happiness in a marriage. It is also believed that the design brings success and wealth. In West African weddings, guests are often provided with fabric that they then have made into an outfit for the wedding based on their own design. No fabric is more apt, that this "wedding flower" fabric.
