Spring turns the wheel 🌸
Here he is, my take on all the traditions, folklore and symbolism I love.
Totally unplanned and surprisingly chuffed how the print has come out, is it perfect, far from it but that’s ok, cause I’m shifting something deeper by posting something I know isn’t my best work (more on that another time).
I’m curious though, as it wasn’t intentional I always planned to remove it hence why it looks so rough, but which do you prefer the boarder or no boarder? I think I’m leaning towards the boarder 🤔 so would be helpful to know before I decide to re-carve this piece and other similarly inspired one’s.
Here’s alittle background about my little Easter hare and the history behind it.
Across the ages and many traditions, the hare runs (or hops) 😜 through it all a keeper of fertility, growth, new beginnings, and in newer folklore, a symbol of transformation, (shifting from bird to hare.) For years I wondered why the Easter bunny brought the eggs, so do look up this tale.
In many ancient traditions, the spiral marks the turning of life the path of growth, death, and return. Its history stretches back to Neolithic times, carved into stone by our ancestors, all over the world, marking the rhythms of nature and the passage of time, Like the moon’s cycle and the changing earth, it honours endless renewal.
At the Spring Equinox, day and night stand in balance. Many cultures and traditions celebrate the long-awaited return of the light and renewal. Some people myself included, see this as nature’s new year, as the earth awakens and blooms, being spring born and an Aries, I also find myself coming back to my best self as a do struggle getting through the dark wet winters.
Ostara honours this shift, a pagan tradition linked to the spring goddess Eostre, from whom the English word “Easter” is thought to originate.
Easter follows, celebrating renewal and the resurrection of Christ.
Easter’s date falls on the first Sunday after the full moon following the Spring Equinox, so in a way, we’ve been marking this season with a full moon ritual for around 2,000 years.
However or whoever you celebrate, I hope your day is a blessed one 🌸🌀🌞🌱🐏🐇
