How Did SIDEGUARD Originate?
The concept of SIDEGUARD goes back to the sixties (1960's)!
There used to be a device, I think called an Auxiliary Parking Light, that could be used when you parked your car at the roadside at night.
Sidelights, if left on overnight could flatten a car's battery in those days, so people would often use these instead.
They comprised of a small 12v light, with a red lens to the rear and a clear lens to the front. It had a metal clip on it, that you would slide on to the top edge of your driver's window, you would then wind the window up, trapping it in position.
You then plugged the power cord into the cigarette lighter socket (remember, this is the sixties we are talking about now) and the light came on.
The idea was to make the offside of your parked car stand out more at night.
This device seemed to disappear as cars became more modern, but the strange thing is, a lot of people still don't feel they can leave their sidelights on overnight, so tend to leave their cars unlit.
SIDEGUARD is based on this concept, but using powerful wide angle reflectors, on a bright neon yellow flexible wing instead of a powered light.
As it doesn't use any of the car's electricity, people now have something they can safely start to use again, offering a considerable safety benefit over not displaying any lights at all.
