We don't have just one queen cell, we have 3! These look like they are probably superceded cells which basically mean that our current queen is failing and needs replacing. We have no idea how old our current Cersei queen is as we rescued the hive last season. The other reason for bees producing queen cells is because they are getting ready to swarm. We don't want this to happen so we have done our very first split where we put the existing queen into a NUC (smaller hive) with some of her bees . We have no idea if this will be successful but fingers crossed that the Cersei hive gets a new queen and we will also get a second hive up and running with whatever happens in the Nuc.
Fingers crossed 🤞 and wish us luck!

We still can't find the Queen, but as you can tell she is definitely in there somewhere 🐝🐝

Our first full inspection of our hives this year. Unfortunately we lost our Feyre hive to the winter conditions but true to her name the Cersei hive refused to bend the knee to the winter and is fighting strong.

We visited the tree sanctuary today for a very special occasion (more to follow) , and whilst we were there we popped in to check on our bees, as it was very cold and pouring with rain the bees were tucked up nice and warm in their hives so no beesuit necessary.

When we obtained our rescue hive (Cersie Hive) earlier this year, it was full of surplus wax and old frames. We swapped the frames over for newer frames and took out all the surplus wax. The first picture shows the wax at its rawest, straight from the frames. The second picture is after I have put it through 2 cleaning cycles which involves it being submerged and melted in boiling water.
You can see that the wax isn't yet completely clean so I will put it through another cleaning cycle and then it will be ready to turn use.
This wax is not cosmetic grade so it will not be used in our skin care range but it can be used for our paw balm, furniture polish, wax melts and candles.
It's really exciting that we have wax from our very own bees 🐝🐝

Our weekly visits to the beehives became bi weekly visits and today we have prepared them for the winter. Watch the videos to see what we have done and why.

Our weekly visits to our 2 hives are starting to slow down a bit now we are heading towards the winter season. This was our visit today where we mainly checked on our Cersei hive.

On Sunday me and Paul attempted an inspection of our new hive. This was the hive that had been neglected for several seasons and due to this the bees object to being disturbed. I have named this hive and queen (if we ever find her) Cersei, I think you will be able to guess why! 🐝
