The Wind thunder trails away to the horizon, smoke belching from her shattered flanks. There is a fire on board and she crash lands heavily, coming to rest upon the deep waters of lake Ollo. A risky landing, especially sporting so many breaches in her hull, yet a better landing that being dashed upon the packed frozen earth.
A strange stillness has settled over Cumbrick. It was mere weeks before that the Alliance Cartel gathered up their possessions and led the villages survivors for the distant mountain fort at Halfen’Dun Way.
Now you have returned. Yet the dead are less numerous here and their shuffling, mindless feet have left fewer tracks than elsewhere. Perhaps the army of the undead has finally passed by? Perhaps the southlands have no more corpses left to offer up to the call of their lord.
The Alliance Cartel have come, seeking answers.
Who summons this mighty unliving horde?
Why do they wage war upon the northern kingdoms?
How can they be stopped?
In the darkest of nights, in the solitude of thought many ask a further question... Will anyone survive?
Cumbrick is visible only as a distant smudge against the backdrop of melting snow and the evergreen canopy of the Wyldshade Forest. Not that many of the Alliance Cartel would choose to re enter that haunted, fey touched place.
As the Cartel approach, eyes glancing skyward fearfully looking for sign of the enraged pirate warship that has laid low the Wind Thunder there is a sense of relief to see the ship keep its distance, skulking around the mountainside walls. A strange position, to manoeuvre into so restrictive a position, where the mountain granite hems in one side, and obscures one entire volley of cannon. The former Captain of the Wind Thunder stumbled drunkenly from the Gambling Den to admire the distant vessel... “Aye, bad position...” he mutters, wiping ale foam from his lips... “Unless, o’course, they seen summit we don’t...” With that he turns and staggers away towards his waiting tankard.
Stamping their feet against the frosty cold the Alliance Cartel resumes its journey... Only a hundred miles to the distant Cumbrick, a mercifully short journey. As you all approach you cannot help but see that for a mile or two around the distant Cumbrick the snow has gone, the ground visible as greens and browns against a backdrop of smothering white. Somehow, the snow and ice around that one place has gone, melted away by a power greater than that of the Winter Grip.
Again as night falls and eyelids close upon weary eyes, many ask themselves again that question... Will anyone survive?
