August is the perfect time to keep your garden looking its best before autumn arrives. Here are a few simple jobs to tackle this month...
💧 Water wisely
Continue watering pots, hanging baskets and newly planted shrubs, preferably in the early morning or evening to reduce evaporation.
🌱 Repair tired lawns
August is an excellent time to repair bare patches and sow new grass seed while the soil is still warm.
🚿 Check your watering equipment
Replace worn hose fittings and spray guns now to make watering quicker and easier through late summer.
🌼 Keep feeding flowering plants
Regular feeding encourages more blooms and helps plants stay healthy right through to autumn.
🐦 Help visiting wildlife
Keep bird baths topped up with fresh water to provide birds, bees and other garden visitors with a reliable source of water.
🌼 Don't Forget to Deadhead!
One of the quickest jobs you can do this month is deadheading your summer flowering plants.
✂️ Removing faded flowers encourages plants to put their energy into producing new blooms instead of making seeds, helping your displays stay colourful for longer.
Simply snip or pinch off the spent flower just above the next healthy leaf or bud.
