We operate on a BC AC timetable. Before Christmas and After Christmas. The season renews AC and then it's a countdown until harvest. With 277 days to Christmas we have a lot to do! Growing season is upon us, which means pruning, bud rubbing and leader crimping each tree by hand. When the weather is good it's glorious, and when it's not, well, it's north Yorkshire, it's still glorious 😉

These young trees are being planted right now on the farm, with 8-12 years of growth ahead of them, before they are harvested.

You may not be thinking about Christmas, but we sure are. It's a long game and a short one. We're thinking about Christmas 2026 and at the same time Christmas 2038.

Whilst you may be thinking about Easter eggs and baby lambs, in spring we are planting saplings for harvesting in a good six or seven years, and we're also pruning the juniors and the seniors ready for this year's Christmas harvest. Follow along as the seasons change and we edge closer to Christmas.

While Christmas may feel far away… this is where it begins. 🌱

These Nordmann firs, characterised by their excellent needle retention, soft foliage and strong branches, need regular pruning to keep their shape.

Our team prune each one by hand with electric pruning sheers. Without them, we all know where we'd be.... in the doctor's waiting room with carpal tunnel syndrome!
