Butt ring repair on this free spirit hi-s 200

Not too much to say about this, cracked ceramic which had completely shattered and fell out. so simple case of cut off the old ring, clean affected area, whip on new eye in right place, two coats of resin to finish, not forgetting to add the dots to keep sections numbered as the rod previously had. Quick easy stuff getting this customer back on the bank

Handle rebuilds on a set of torrix T.E’s

Recently had a set of Harrison torrix T.E’s in for handle conversions. The Alps reel seats were kept, and the black Delrin collars either side of the reel seats kept, full length duplon handles without a flare were fitted, and new pointy black butt caps to finish. The customer had pictures of another set of rods, of which he wanted to copy the decal and finishing infront of reel seats on these rods. Decals sourced, matching thread colour found, and I managed to copy exactally what he wanted, with the addition of numbered decals on the underside to keep the correct sections paired together. To finish, 1k carbon line clips which matched the weave of the rod were whipped on 6” up from the reel seats to customers spec. Look very smart and functional too

Free spirit CTX butt guide repair

Not too much to say about this one. The ceramic inside the 50mm butt guide had cracked on this free spirit CTX. Old one cut off, a matching new guide was whipped on in place, and finished with two coats of epoxy as always. Quick turn around on this simple repair

Few repairs carried out on this special set of century X-Lites

A loveley set of old rods, with some special writing above the reel seats, if you know, you know!
The rods and reels were filthy, so I started with a full deep clean on both. when everything was clean and dry, three new Kigan Z tip eyes were fitted, as one was broken and two were loose. One new 50mm Kigan butt eye supplied and fitted, and another re-whipped/epoxied to match. One join on the tip section was abit loose where it pushed onto the butt, so this was cut back and all three re-whipped, and numbered tip and butt sections to pair them together. This time the customer wanted actual numbers written, not dots which most people usually want, so a nice change and in-keeping with the old school build on these rods. Finally, I re-plugged the ends of the butt section with black foam, the old cork had fallen out, so the new foams glued in stop any dirt and water getting inside the rods and causing problems.
A loveley old set of rods given a nice tidy up, and now ready for plenty more years fishing

Greys spod rod in for strip and rebuild

This greys 12ft 6” spod rod was in for a full rebuild. Complete strip down except for the reel seat and collars, which got a good clean, new American tackle Ti-forged guides were whipped on, finished with a delta anti-frap tip ring. The guides were made to match his main set of fishing rods, with the epoxy resin all the way over the whippings and between the guides, which is something a little bit different. New shrink rubber grip, with flare and flat delrin butt cap finished off the handle. The customer wanted the rod to stand out, so he chose to tip all the whippings with metallic lime green thread, which really makes it pop. The tip ring was finished with all green thread, which adds a little bit more visibility when watching the tip when pulling the lead back along the lakebed. He also wanted his kids names incorporated into the rod somehow, so we decided to add 6”, and 12” markers up from the reel for when being used for marker float work.
I thought the rod would look a little bit lairy when we was planning it, but I am very pleased with the finished article, it certainly stands out

Handle conversions on this set of Trebuchet lights

Recently had this set of three Harrison Treb lights in for full handle rebuilds. The old shrink rubber was stripped and butt caps taken out, and new slim duplon with flares fitted. With the bottom of the rod blank being 19mm diameter and the duplon only being 17mm internal diameter, it was always going to be a challenge getting it on from the rear as the customer wanted to keep the existing reel seats. We got there in the end and am quite pleased with the finish myself. Finished off with solar stainless butt caps

New line clips on these free spirit XS’s.

The old epoxy was failing causing the whippings to go milky blue when they got wet, so the old whippings were cut off, and replaced with the addition of new 1k carbon line clips. Sanded inside edges of the clip to ensure line friendlyness as always.

Yet more treb light new builds

Recent works on another 3 Harrison trebuchet light 13ft’s.
Brand new blanks direct from Harrison were the backbone of this build, straight cut j*p shrink rubber abbreviated handles with flat black Delrin butt caps, black American tackle 18mm dps reel seats, finished off with black delrin collars, and a 1k carbon line clip with sanded inside edges for line friendlyness, with a small black and white Union Jack on the line clip whipping finished off the handle build.
50mm Kigan ZDZ in gunsmoke were used for the butt guides to aid in cutting out frap ups on the mega casts these rods are capable of, with Kigan 3D running guides, also in gunsmoke for the intermediate guides. A gunsmoke Kigan Z tip was used for the tip guide to also help cut out frap ups on long casts. Tip and butt sections numbered on the underside of rod to ensure correct pairing of sections. All black whipping throughout the build, complemented with the black delrin fittings give these rods a very minimal and understated look, however don’t be fooled, these rods are capable of huge casts with a baited rig due to their 3.75lb test curve. Very Happy with how these turned out, and the customer was even more pleased

Full rebuild on these Wychwood Maximisers

12ft 9in 3.5tc blanks, completely stripped down and rebuilt.
Full shrink wrap handles, rear flares and flat stainless butt caps, coupled with American tackle carbon reel seats, stainless collars and front duplon cones. 1k carbon line clips with sanded inside edges to ensure line friendlyness, whipped on and tipped with blue metallic thread, finished the handle section. For the guides, Kigan ZDZ anti-frap 50mm butt guides were chosen, with 40,30,20,16 Kigan 3D standard guides, through to a 16mm Kigan anti frap tip. The anti-frap tip and butt guides cut out tangles and frap ups where they are most likely to occour to allow smooth, tangle free casting on the long chucks these rods are capable of. All whippings were done with Fuji D grade black thread, and finished with decal numbered tip and butt sections, 1,2,and 3, to ensure the correct sections are used together. Very smart looking builds even if I say so myself
