This photo was taken tonight (Monday 8 July at 9.24) of the wonderful view from the top floor of Audlem Mill across Lock 13 of the Shropshire Union Canal, the Shroppie Fly pub, with Moss Hall in the distance.

We have changed the canal art on the Guild of Waterways art wall at Audlem Mill, by the Shropshire Union Canal in south Cheshire. For July, there are canal photos by Kev Maslin (“Chasing the Boats”), and oil paintings by DC ‘Dusty’ Miller. Two completely different media, and both selections are superb!
Audlem Mill is open every day except Monday.

Business for Sale – REDUCED PRICE!

Our business at Audlem Mill is for sale as a going concern. Now, for a much reduced price of £60,000, you can buy what many commentators have said is the best canalside shop in Britain. We stock by far the widest range of canal books, guides and maps, plus canal ware, gifts for all the family, needlecraft, knitting and other crafts, and a large selection of related books, spread across two retail floors. Included in the sale price are all stock, fixtures and fittings, canal book publishing (approx. 30 titles) and Abacus Designs cross stitch and embroidery kit designs. There’s also the CanalBookShop and needlecraft websites.

The building is leased (current rent is £15,000 per annum), and also includes self-contained accommodation – large lounge/diner, two double bedrooms, kitchen and bathroom, all in good condition.

Three parking spaces, and private garden.

Just arrived at CanalBookShop at Audlem Mill ...
A new print run of "Toby of the White Ciity - The Boat Dog's Story", the new book by the late Sheila Stewart, who wrote the classic canal novel "Ramlin Rose". The book talks of Toby the boat dog's adventures and misadventures with the Hone family on their horse drawn boats "White City" and "Rose and Betty" on the Oxford Canal during WW2. Illustrations by acclaimed canal artist DC 'Dusty' Miller.
A new book by Victoria Owens - "The Life of LTC Rolt - Where Engineering Met Literature". Rolt was co-founder of the Inland Waterways Association in 1946, which resulted from his seminal book "Narrow Boat" of 1944, and a few years later he was the main force behind the saving of the world-famous narrow guage Talyllyn Railway - the world's first preserved railway. Rolt was also heavily into vintage cars. This book explores Rolt's life, and is the first biography of the engineer turned author.

CanalBookShop at Audlem Mill has just published a hitherto unpublished book by Sheila Stewart, the author of the classic canal novel Ramlin Rose, who died in 2014.

Horse-drawn long distance narrow boats became a rarer and rarer sight on Britain's canals from the 1930s. Carrying a wide variety of cargoes to such destinations as the Potteries, the textile mills of Lancashire, the papermills of London, but especially on the Oxford Canal, they struggled on against increasing competition from rail and road traffic to maintain their place in the country's economy.
This book tells of the Hone family, Alf and Lizzie, their two children Rose and Betty, and their horse-drawn boats 'White City' and the eponymously named 'Rose and Betty' during World War II. But more particularly, it's the moving story of Toby, their boat dog, "with his tail cut short and his ears all wrong", and Toby's adventures, both good and bad, on the Oxford Canal.
Beautifully illustrated by D C 'Dusty' Miller.
