A blinder is a piece of kit that obscures the image in the non-sighting eye, in order to improve the sight picture.
It should also be used to balance the amount of light entering each eye - if the aiming eye is subjected to significantly more or less light than the non-aiming eye, the ability to acquire and maintain a good sight picture is likely to be compromised.
Those who shoot outdoors should also consider a blinder setup that doesn't obscure their view of wind flags or other wind indicators.
There are many designs of blinder available: blinders mounted on headbands, blinders to clip onto your shooting hat, blinders that fit to the rearsight, blinders to fix onto shooting glasses...
They come in different colours too: black, white, transluscent, green, blue
