We promise this is the last post banging on about EAZA but honestly, this week has really lifted our spirits and put more fire in our bellies to make Fife Zoo even better!

We've lot's of exciting things happening this summer and can't wait to share with you all.

Our superstar von der decken's hornbill, Zazu, is clearly taking it all in his stride. 😌

It’s been such a special few days for our small zoo, and we really can’t thank you enough for every like, comment, share and kind message.

Being recognised by EAZA is a huge milestone for Fife Zoo, but day-to-day life here still looks much the same to our animals — snacks, naps, enrichment, keeper care and plenty of character.

And honestly, that’s exactly how it should be. 💚

As a personal note, I'm so proud of what we, as a team, have achieved. And what a team we've got!

As the post last night said, we couldn't do it without YOU! Every visit, every like and every ounce of support, pushes us to make Fife Zoo a zoo to be proud of.

This is just the beginning. Through summer we'll be pushing hard and bringing more and more for you to see and fall in love with.

We’ve got some really exciting news to share… 🎉

Fife Zoo is now officially accredited by the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA)! 🌍🦓

For our small, family-run zoo, this is a massive moment and something we’re all incredibly proud of. The accreditation recognises high standards in animal welfare, conservation, education and zoo management, placing Fife Zoo among a leading network of zoos and aquariums across Europe.

Behind the scenes, there’s been a huge amount of hard work from our team every single day to care for our animals, continue improving the zoo and help connect people with wildlife and conservation.

From our endangered lemur species to the wild red squirrels living around the zoo, conservation is a huge part of what we do, and this recognition is a really special milestone for us.

Most importantly, thank you to all of YOU for supporting us along the way. Whether you’ve visited the zoo, booked an encounter, shared our posts or simply followed our journey, you’ve helped us get here 💚

Enrichment is a huge part of daily life here, helping our animals stay active, curious and busy by encouraging natural behaviours like foraging, climbing, digging, searching, problem-solving and, in some cases… enthusiastically destroying things. 😂

From logs and puzzle feeders to branches, toys, scent enrichment and browse, even the simplest items can make a big difference to an animal’s day.

A little bird with a big seasonal glow-up 🔥

Just before breeding season, male Madagascar fodies undergo a remarkable transformation, changing from their more subtle colours into a bright, fiery red-orange plumage.

It’s one of those brilliant little reminders that nature doesn’t do boring.
