Well… this one deserved a response ☕️😂
We don't usually feel the need to explain ourselves over reviews, but this one got me thinking…
Apparently our food is lovely ✅
Apparently our staff are lovely ✅
Apparently we use good-quality ingredients ✅
But because our prices have increased, we're apparently worthy of 3 stars. 🤷♀️😂
So, grab yourself a cuppa ☕️ because I thought I’d explain a little bit about what actually goes on behind the scenes of running a small independent café.
Spoiler alert… it isn't just chucking a butty in a toaster and counting the pennies. 😂
Our food is freshly prepared. We use good-quality produce. We employ local people. And, something I'm particularly proud of, I pay ALL of my staff above minimum wage.
Why? Because I worked bloody hard to build this business to a point where I can do that, and I won't apologise for wanting the people who work for me to be paid properly. ❤️
Could we buy cheaper ingredients? Yes.
Could we pay minimum wage? Yes.
Could we cut corners? Probably.
But that's not the business I want to run.
We're not a greasy caff knocking out the cheapest possible breakfast. 😂 We're an independent café, serving freshly prepared food, using quality ingredients, with a team of local people who work bloody hard.
And for the record… we haven't increased our prices since March 2025 until the new menu came in March 2026. So the idea that we've been constantly putting our prices up isn't quite the picture being painted.
Do we get everything right? Absolutely not. We're human. We're busy. Sometimes service takes longer than we'd like. And yes, we're constantly working on that.
But behind every price on our menu is a small business trying to survive astronomical food costs, energy bills, wages, insurance and everything else that comes with keeping the doors open.
So here's my little reminder…
You don't have to love our prices. ❤️
You don't have to eat here. ❤️
But please don't mistake paying a little more for quality, freshly prepared food and fairly paid staff as us taking the mick.
And to every single person who continues to support our little café — thank you. You genuinely keep this place going. 🥹❤️
