I have to admit earlier today I slipped on some wet grass and, wearing slightly inappropriate light coloured slacks, it left a green hue to one’s derrière.

Just a few moments ago a Spanish customer wanted to buy some of our top quality turf. As I was helping load his car he noticed my rear and said “Grassy ass?”
“Yes,” I said “I slipped on the dew earlier.”
“What’s due?” He asked.
“Just £6.99 a roll,” I announced.

In hindsight, he may not have been Spanish at all but he will be getting a lovely lawn!

“Baby it’s cold outside.”
No, I’m not flirting with you (well, not too much), I am actually talking meteorological fact and, of course, referring to the famous Christmas song, written back in 1944 and popularised in the 1949 film Neptune’s Daughter.

“I really can’t stay.”
Because I need to find a coat and head to the outside plant area, but before I do, as someone mentioned Christmas (albeit it was me) I just have time to tell you about a couple of our Christmas festive events.

Our real ice, ice rink unwraps this year with the very first weekend on the 14th November having a brilliant brass band accompany you as you skate. That sounds - quite literally fantastic. The weekend kicks off as we welcome Pudsey to the rink, Children in Need Day Friday 13th AND Saturday 14th.

Whilst name-dropping, Elsa will return, The Grinch will, no doubt, be up to mischief and the main man, Santa will be here in December. It’s essentially Christmas all wrapped up!

Our Evergreen Gallery is now open.

Evergreen shrubs form the backbone of garden planting providing a framework of evergreen colour throughout the year. Evergreen shrubs can also be planted into patio pots for a splash of winter colour and then replanted into the garden in Spring. This Autumn we have displayed all our evergreen plants together to create an Evergreen Gallery showcasing the best evergreen plants for your garden. They are proving a huge hit by everyone - apart from yours truly, the social media writer and ultimately maintainer of high written standards, checker of grammaticals and spelling. Pfff! Wish me luck. Here we go then…

Scented Daphne, Sarcococca, Skimmia, Photinia, Azalea, Heuchera, Choisya, Euonymus, Nandina, Mahonia, Rosemary (yes I can do that one!), Pieris, Pyracantha, Vinca, Pittosporum, Trailing Ivy (a personal favourite!), Fatsia, Leucothoe, Ilex (Holly), and Lavendurr, sorry that should be… Lavender.

We have some pretty exciting news. We have a new place!

I wanted to call it Whilton Locks Garden Village Two but I was overruled (and in hindsight it was a better option), it’s called The Plant Barn.

The Plant Barn can be found at the rather lovely Heart of the Shires - just a mile away from our site, South, along the A5. We’d love you to see it, this week.

Tuesday and Thursday is our Loyalty Card day at Whilton and after you have saved with us, why not pop along and see the new place and save there too? Simply wave your WLGV Loyalty Card at them and they will take 10% off your shopping. Yes, very much like us, some exclusions will apply such as furniture and sale lines, but they will be pretty clear to what is included - essentially all indoor and outdoor plants and a great deal of Christmas stock too.

We’d love to know what you think of the place - it’s a little different from us with a few cues that you love from Whilton, like top quality products and great customer service.
