I used to open new client conversations by explaining what I do.
Client experience audits, journey mapping, that kind of thing. All true, all reasonably impressive-sounding, and none of it actually made anyone want to work with me!
Now I'm flipping the order. I ask first.
• What's actually going on for you at the moment?
• Where do you think clients are quietly falling away, or not referring you the way you'd expect?
• What would genuinely be useful to you right now - this month, not eventually?
These answers tell me far more than my own pitch ever would - and it usually means the first proper piece of work we do together is more useful too, because it's aimed at something real.
If you're the kind of business that already puts people first, you probably do this naturally with your own clients already. I'd love to know - what's the question you wish more people asked you, before they tried to pitch you? 😊
