CUT THE NOISE – USE BALANCED XLR CABLES.
Balanced XLR cables connected by 3 pin XLR connectors will reduce the noise in your music system by using two audio signals of opposing polarity. In the cable both signals can be distorted by electrical noise. When connected to the amplifier, the amplifier will amplify the difference signal between the two wires. But the noise is almost the same in both cables so the difference between them is virtually zero. In this way the noise picked up by the cable is cancelled and we have a noise-free audio signal.
The benefit of balanced XLR cables is a much clearer audio signal with less distortion of your music. The downside is that 2 wires cost more than the single wire used in unbalanced RCA interconnects and that preamplifiers will require extra circuitry or a transformer to produce the balanced output. That is why RCA connected cables are much more popular in low and medium price music systems.
