🌧️ Is your lawn feeling a little more soggy than usual?

With wetter weather on the way, now’s a good time to think about how to treat and prevent a waterlogged lawn.

Here are a few things you can do:

🌱 Stay off the grass
Walking on waterlogged ground can compact the soil, damaging grass roots and making drainage problems worse.

💧 Clear surface water
Use a broom or soft yard brush to gently move standing water towards garden borders or nearby drains.

🌿 Aerate the soil
Once the ground is damp rather than completely flooded, use a garden fork or mechanical aerator to create holes around 10–15cm deep. This helps air and water move through the soil.

🪴 Consider top dressing
Brushing a sandy top dressing or sharp sand into the lawn over time can help improve drainage, particularly on heavier clay soils.

🔧 Think long term
If soggy areas are a recurring problem, it may be worth looking at drainage solutions and improving the soil profile with soil improvers or specialist treatments.
