𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐃𝐨 𝐖𝐞 𝐕𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐮𝐦 & 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐓𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐧 𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐘 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞?

Some of the most important checks carried out in the GTE workshop aren't necessarily the ones you can see.

Vacuum and pressure testing is an important diagnostic check used to make sure an engine's crankcase, gaskets and seals are airtight. That's why we include it as part of every applicable service carried out in our workshop.

𝑺𝒐, 𝒘𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒘𝒆 𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒖𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚 𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒄𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈?

💨 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠
A small amount of air is introduced into the sealed system to check whether it can maintain pressure. If it can't, this can indicate a leak from areas such as gaskets, crankcase joints or rubber components.

⬇️ 𝐕𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐮𝐦 𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠
We then check whether the system can hold a vacuum. This is particularly important for identifying problems with crankshaft oil seals that may allow unwanted air into the engine while it's running.

On 2-stroke machinery such as chainsaws, strimmers and leaf blowers, an air leak can cause poor acceleration, erratic idling or a dangerously lean fuel mixture. If left undetected, it could ultimately result in engine damage.

Testing also helps our technicians track down hidden leaks that might otherwise be difficult to identify.

🔧 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐁𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐥𝐲? 🔧

This one has a few years behind it! A Ransomes Triple 18, thought to be around 30–45 years old, recently came into the GTE workshop for repair, and we're pleased to say it's back up and running! 👏

These classic commercial machines were built for serious mowing work, using multiple cylinder cutting units to cover large areas efficiently. Ransomes machines of this era became known for their robust engineering, durability and relatively straightforward mechanical systems – qualities that have helped many of them remain in service decades later.

And this one certainly isn't ready for retirement just yet!

🔧 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐁𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤? 🔧

This 𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐇𝐋 𝐌𝐒 𝟒𝟔𝟎 came into the GTE workshop following an 𝐀𝐕 𝐦𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐮𝐫𝐞, which had resulted in a bolt shearing off deep inside the plastic tank housing.

With the damaged bolt inaccessible, a replacement tank housing was required to get the chainsaw back into working order.

Our workshop team quickly got to work:

✅ New tank housing fitted
✅ All new AV rubbers fitted
✅ New vacuum and hose fitted
✅ Machine fully reassembled with new bar nuts
✅ Genuine STIHL parts used throughout

Last week, a 𝐆𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐨 𝐅𝐃 𝟐𝟖𝟎 was in the GTE workshop for an intensive service and our experienced team gave this trusty machine a thorough once over.

As part of the work carried out, we:

✅ Ensured all moving parts were thoroughly lubricated and greased.
✅ Gave the machine a full service to help keep everything operating as it should, as it was showing significant signs of wear and deterioration.

The customer had already partially stripped the assembly and brought it to us for some expert assistance with fitting the new bearings and pairing them correctly with the new shaft.

Our workshop team:

✅ Expertly fitted the new bearings to the new PTO shaft
✅ Reassembled the complete assembly
✅ Prepared it for the customer to collect and refit to their machine
