An update for anyone following Angie’s journey.
Thank you to everyone who has supported us through our GoFundMe link

The shares, comments, messages, words of encouragement, offers of help and, of course, the donations have been absolutely incredible.

Every single person who has supported us has made a difference, and we appreciate you more than we can say.

It has been truly overwhelming to see where this support has come from — family, school friends, RAF friends, nursing friends, friends of friends, hospital friends, our children’s friends, family friends, neighbours, customers (who we really see as friends, we always have).

There are so many people who have chosen to remain anonymous, then there are people we haven’t seen for well over thirty years and complete strangers who simply saw our story and wanted to help.

Thank you !!

You have all come together for us at a time when we have needed it most, and it has genuinely filled our hearts with hope and gratitude.

The cost of private treatment is daunting, if all goes well we are looking at just under £42,000, which includes the radiotherapy, chemotherapy consultant appointments, scans and follow-up care. The radiotherapy alone is £29,000.

To have raised over £16,000 already is just incredible. We honestly never wanted to have to ask for help, and we will never take a single donation, share or kind message for granted. The generosity of everyone who has supported us has allowed our story to reach far more people than we could ever have reached ourselves.

I also hope that, once I am through this, we can use what has happened to help make a difference for others.

We want to campaign for greater honesty, openness and transparency around cancer waiting times, the cancer pathway and the explanations patients receive when treatment is delayed. No one facing cancer should be left feeling uncertain about what is happening or how long they may have to wait, and should be treated with empathy and compassion.

And finally, a little update on my treatment.

I am booked in on Tuesday at Genesis Care Newmarket for my Radiotherapy mapping scan, with treatment due to start the following Tuesday. This is such a huge relief, although I now face a huge challenge ahead, of five and half weeks of daily Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy. This is a one off treatment, that can’t be repeated, so please keep all that positivity, hope and prayers coming my way, as I need faith that this will work, just as much as the treatment itself.

It is important to explain why we have chosen to fund private treatment. The NHS yesterday offered to start my treatment in mid-September, this would have been mid October but a combination of complaints brought the Oncology consultation forward.

However, my cancer has already shown progression in the six weeks between scans, including involvement of a lymph node, which is really frightening.

Given how quickly things have changed, we simply cannot take the risk of waiting any longer, the difference of waiting another four weeks isn’t an option.

Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, to everyone.

Your kindness has given us something incredibly precious at a very frightening time — hope, and a chance to get treatment started.

We will never forget what you have done for us, please keep sharing if you can.

Thank you Angie & Chris

Please consider helping Angie if you can. We never imagined we would be in a position where we had to ask for help to access essential cancer treatment that should be available through the NHS. This has been an incredibly difficult decision, but we have reached the point where we have no other choice.

Angie has been on a cancer "Pathway" since May 13th 2026, after almost a year of repeated visits to the GP. A CT scan in May discovered a large tumour in her bowel and pelvis

The Cancer diagnosis was a shock, and was later proven to be a rare form of locally advanced Squamous Cell Carcinoma, it effects only 0.03 % of the population with bowel cancer. It has unfortunately spread into the pelvis.

When you have a cancer diagnosis you are immediately set on a Cancer "Pathway" . The Pathway timescales are set by NHS England and the Department of Health, with the aim that every patient should have speedy care and commence their first treatment from the moment Cancer is suspected within 62 days.

The Pathway, is something we have learnt about ourselves, and was never communicated to us from the hospital. Angie's care has fallen entirely short, as we are now in August, and at day 90, we are no closer to a treatment plan from the NHS and way over the national targets, yet Angie is still waiting to see an oncologist ! That's three months of knowing she has cancer and feeling helpless.

We have discovered that the Norfolk & Norwich is unfortunately one of the worst performing trusts in the country for Pathway targets, they are 8th from the bottom of all trusts in England.

We were dealt another blow recently, and informed last week on the phone that her pathology report shows that this is a particularly aggressive and fast-growing Cancer. Knowing this has made the delays even more frightening and frustrating and prompted us to set up the GoFundMe to access care more quickly. The NHS have had this information since July the 8th, but only shared this with us at the end of July when pushed for pathology information.

Angie has had emergency surgery for an obstruction caused by the tumour and whilst in hospital was informed she would start Chemoradiotherapy within weeks. This hasn't happened, or even been planned despite multiple communication with heads of department.

Angie hasn't been able to work for many months, as the tumour is pressing on sensitive nerve endings, causing increasing pain, this is typically a very difficult area of pain to manage because of the nature of where it is. She is now taking regular morphine (MST) tablets as well as Oramorph and Paracetamol to just to get through each day, but the pain continues to worsen and we are finding that every week she is needing to increase the medication. Which is obviously concerning as we know this tumour is fast growing.

As a family, we have made the decision to seek private cancer care, because we simply cannot afford to wait any longer. This could mean the difference between life and death. We have been let down, and want to fight this cancer the best we can.

If you are able to support us, we would be so incredibly grateful. Every donation, no matter how small, will help us access the treatment Angie desperately needs and give her the best possible chance to fight this horrible illness

If you aren't able to donate, simply sharing the GoFundMe page would mean the world to us.

Thank you for reading, for your kindness, and for standing beside us during the hardest time of our lives. ❤️

The Big C - Important Notice

Many of you will have noticed that we've been operating with reduced hours recently, and that sometimes we've had to make changes at short notice. We felt it was time to let you know why.

A little while ago, I (Angie) was diagnosed with bowel and pelvic cancer. I'm currently in hospital having major abdominal surgery, plus a colostomy. Once I have recovered well enough, the next step will be chemo and radiotherapy combined.

This will be a long arduous journey ahead, and this is just the beginning as I will need additional abdominal surgery to remove the tumours when they have been shrunk with Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy.

We absolutely love our shop. Being away has been incredibly difficult, for everyone. Chris has been doing an amazing job of keeping everything running smoothly. We have even had regular video calls so he can give me a tour of the shop, just so I can make sure everything is just where I like it to be.

With chemotherapy on the horizon, I may not be able to be back in the shop for quite some time, but please know that I'll still be forever present every day in some way.

I also want to say a huge thank you to our customers. Throughout all of this, we haven't received a single complaint about the reduced hours or last-minute changes.

The kindness, patience and support from those who already knew about my diagnosis has meant more than you'll ever know, and we're so grateful to each and every one of you.

If you're planning to visit the shop , please check our Google opening hours before travelling, as Chris will always update them first. Alternatively, you can give us a call on 01362 350530 and leave us a message.

Online ordering remains the same, and will not be impacted, as Chris is super human and managing to juggle everything as well as looking after me.

Thank you for your understanding, your patience, and for continuing to support our little shop. We really do have the best customers, friends and family and-we can't wait to welcome you when we're open. We hope once a plan is in place for chemotherapy and radiotherapy we will have more regular hours again

I have no doubt this will be a tough journey ahead, we are taking this one step at a time.

Much love

Angie

❤️
