An update for anyone following Angie’s journey.
Thank you to everyone who has supported us through our GoFundMe link
The shares, comments, messages, words of encouragement, offers of help and, of course, the donations have been absolutely incredible.
Every single person who has supported us has made a difference, and we appreciate you more than we can say.
It has been truly overwhelming to see where this support has come from — family, school friends, RAF friends, nursing friends, friends of friends, hospital friends, our children’s friends, family friends, neighbours, customers (who we really see as friends, we always have).
There are so many people who have chosen to remain anonymous, then there are people we haven’t seen for well over thirty years and complete strangers who simply saw our story and wanted to help.
Thank you !!
You have all come together for us at a time when we have needed it most, and it has genuinely filled our hearts with hope and gratitude.
The cost of private treatment is daunting, if all goes well we are looking at just under £42,000, which includes the radiotherapy, chemotherapy consultant appointments, scans and follow-up care. The radiotherapy alone is £29,000.
To have raised over £16,000 already is just incredible. We honestly never wanted to have to ask for help, and we will never take a single donation, share or kind message for granted. The generosity of everyone who has supported us has allowed our story to reach far more people than we could ever have reached ourselves.
I also hope that, once I am through this, we can use what has happened to help make a difference for others.
We want to campaign for greater honesty, openness and transparency around cancer waiting times, the cancer pathway and the explanations patients receive when treatment is delayed. No one facing cancer should be left feeling uncertain about what is happening or how long they may have to wait, and should be treated with empathy and compassion.
And finally, a little update on my treatment.
I am booked in on Tuesday at Genesis Care Newmarket for my Radiotherapy mapping scan, with treatment due to start the following Tuesday. This is such a huge relief, although I now face a huge challenge ahead, of five and half weeks of daily Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy. This is a one off treatment, that can’t be repeated, so please keep all that positivity, hope and prayers coming my way, as I need faith that this will work, just as much as the treatment itself.
It is important to explain why we have chosen to fund private treatment. The NHS yesterday offered to start my treatment in mid-September, this would have been mid October but a combination of complaints brought the Oncology consultation forward.
However, my cancer has already shown progression in the six weeks between scans, including involvement of a lymph node, which is really frightening.
Given how quickly things have changed, we simply cannot take the risk of waiting any longer, the difference of waiting another four weeks isn’t an option.
Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, to everyone.
Your kindness has given us something incredibly precious at a very frightening time — hope, and a chance to get treatment started.
We will never forget what you have done for us, please keep sharing if you can.
Thank you Angie & Chris
