Farm and shop life is always busy (when is it not?!), but August has certainly kept us on our toes.

We finished harvest on the 2nd August, making it our second earliest harvest ever ā€” topped only by the harvest of 1976, according to Cameronā€™s mum!

The extreme heat has made things particularly tricky across the farm and in the shop, with some very early starts and plenty of hot days in the kitchen. Weā€™re all very excited to finally see some rain.

Our ice cream became an essential to keep everyone cool.šŸ¦

Over in the shop, weā€™ve been busy introducing lots of new products and weā€™ve also kicked off our new Super Sample Saturday, which will be happening monthly. A great excuse to come along, have a taste and discover something new!

Farm and shop life is always busy (when is it not?!), but August has certainly kept us on our toes.

Horton House Dairy is the supplier of our delicious 100% grass-fed, organic milk.

Lucky for us, theyā€™re our neighbours and are less than a mile down the road ā€” you canā€™t get much fresher than that!

They are a cow-with-calf farm and champion high standards of animal welfare. Their farm is more than just cows, with goats, pigs, emus and more. You can also get their organic, grass-fed beef in our shop too.

Their unhomogenised jersey milk is extra creamy, and paired with a Moo2Yoo milkshake syrup, itā€™s hard to beat in a heatwave!

While the sun shines, the combine rolls!ā˜€ļø

Harvest started early this year, with the extreme heat bringing its own challenges. We are, however, on track for a record breaking finish, aside from maybe 1976! Itā€™s always a community effort for us, and a big thank you to our neighbours, the Sheps, for keeping things moving.

While itā€™s a very busy time of year, we still found time for a special 85th birthday spin in the combine for Cameronā€™s mum, who started farming here over 50 years ago.

Weā€™ve finally had a moment to reflect on a very special day.šŸ¤

In June, we celebrated the wedding of Alasdair and Hannah here on the farm, surrounded by friends, family and, of course, Griff!

A huge thank you to our amazing farm and shop team for all their hard work in making the day so special. Also, to all our lovely customers for your understanding while we operated on reduced hours.

Now the celebrations are over, the wedding barn is quickly filling back up with straw! šŸŒ¾

We hope you are all keeping as cool as possible.
We have decided to close early on Thursday and Friday (25th & 26th June).
The afternoon sun shines fully on the front of the shop towards the end of the afternoon and running a kitchen becomes sweltering. We are sorry for any inconvenience.
We will probably suspend hot drinks in the afternoon too so that we reduce the heat from the urn and dishwasher.
Normal service will be resumed as soon as the temperatures drop a little.

We also do a lot for our livestock to keep them cool - providing shower lines to the livestock in buildings, wallows for the outdoor pigs and the staff are being brilliant by coming in early when itā€™s a little bit cooler.

The start of May marked Pete, our Farm Managerā€™s, 30-year anniversary at the farm!

Over the last three decades, Pete has supported the farmā€™s growth and development, from caring for sheep and chickens as a young lad to growing crops and looking after our outdoor sows.
