Dropped off our adorable little boxes of two at The Swan in Southwold yesterday, as part of their turn down service.

While I was there I took a little stroll around the town to capture some colours & textures of Southwold in the late afternoon sun

Hello there 👋

Nothing quite jolts you back into market mode like a double day at a food fair! North Norfolk Food & Drink Festival you were amazing! Thank you for having us...I think its safe to say we've picked up some new fans from North Norfolk!!

So I thought it was about time to do another little introduction to say hello to our new followers.

In a nutshell, we are Simon & Jessie of Wood Row Chocolate. A business that spawned from lockdown. Si had been a chef for 20 years & had a natural flare for flavour & cooking, where I was front of house & had a way with people.

We met at The Leaping Hare Restaurant when we were 20 & built up a solid friendship before our inevitable romance.

During the lockdown, as we have no children we had endless amounts of time to work on ourselves.
I dabbled in all things craft, you name it I tried it; felting, resin, wood carving, pyrography but my main love is making miniatures out of polymer clay. Si on the other hand started exploring in the kitchen. He had seen chefs on socials making bonbons, he liked the science behind it all.

After lots of trials, errors & the chaos of the hospitality trade, we left the restaurant, took the leap & launched Wood Row Chocolate on 5th March 2022.

Other than having the new knowledge on making bonbons, we had zero idea what the hell we were doing. We had no business experience or knowledge between us. For a couple of years we felt like we were completely blagging it with confidence. We said yes to everything & thought we'll just figure it out as we go. ENDLESS amounts of mistakes were made, it was painful but they taught us the biggest lessons! The worst thing we could have done was not try...we had nothing else to lose, if the bonbon business goes t**s up, there will always be jobs going in hospitality...not gonna lie, that idea scared the crap out of us & was another driving force to make this work.

4.5 years on & still going strong! All the upgrades didn't happen over night, every move we made was meticulously thought about first & every penny we made went straight back into the business. We played into our strengths ...& its you lot that make it possible for us, so much love 🥰

New flavour inserts!

As our flavour range has grown, we’ve had to tweak how we present our flavours inside our boxes.

Printing individual inserts for every box size would add extra costs, so to keep things as affordable as possible, we’ve designed one flavour insert that fits inside all four of our box sizes.

Our 6-box is the smallest, so we’ve based the insert dimensions around that box. To make room for all our new flavours, we’ve sadly had to remove the bonbon descriptions-which is a shame, as we really liked that little touch...
..But we’ve found a handy solution.

We’ve added a QR code to the back of the insert, which you can scan with your phone. It will take you straight to the Descriptions & Allergens page on our website, where you can find all the details about each flavour.

Summer is winding down, the holidays are coming to and end & the kids are getting ready to go back to school.

With a new season just around the corner there are a few exciting changes happening here at Wood Row Chocolate.

Our new menu has been launched today - & we're giving you even more choice! We're increasing the number of flavours available to you from 12 to 18.

Our Classic Menu will now feature 12 flavours that will always be available, while the remaining 6 flavours will make up of Seasonal Selection. These 6 flavours will continue to change every few months, giving you something new to discover throughout the year.

Don't worry, we've got a couple of new bar flavours on the way too! These are still in the works, as creating & getting a new menu ready takes a little time.

Behind the scenes, we're also busy preparing for Halloween, our Advent Calendars & the Christmas Seasonal menu, which we'll be sharing more details with you over the coming weeks.

Our first market back after the Summer is happening this weekend. We'll be attending North Norfolk Food & Drink Fair, within Holkhams Walled garden. Its our first time at this event & excited to be part of the event.

New Menu Imminent!!

August is winding down & the subtle shift in seasons feels like it has already begun!

We've had a very relaxed Summer, enjoying the results from our new garden, we escaped the 4 walls with a couple of days away & generally just caught up with life.

August, even though its slower in sales, we've found its a crucial time of year for us, as this is when we prepare ourselves for the busy months leading up to Christmas. Its a great feeling when you get to draw a line through a completed task on the never ending lists, all those boring tedious jobs we've been putting off for months!!

We've had a big update to our menu, all will be revealed soon...we're just crossing the t's, dotting the i's & waiting for the new flavour inserts to be printed & delivered...this is looking like next week 😉

Summer Sale!

We've got a couple bags left of mixed bonbons. Heavily reduced in price, as they have a short shelf life due to not being able to send them when the temperatures were too high.

We've also boxed up the last of the Summer Collection, with a reduced price. We're winding some of these flavours down in preparation for the Autumn menu change.

We'll be out of office/kitchen on annual leave now for a few days, orders & messages will be dealt with next week.

Ciao for now folks! 🤘

Fractal design experimentation....

This technique has been on our list to try out for aaaaages. Our first attempts have had some great results. After a bit more playing around I think we could nail it & create some incredible & consistent results.

We're still alive, just tinkering quietly behind the scenes with various things & dispatching orders as & when the temperatures allow it.

For the very first time, we’re going to be at the North Norfolk Food & Drink Festival, taking place inside Holkham’s gorgeous walled gardens. Of course, our year wouldn't be complete without our spot at the wonderful Aldeburgh Food & Drink Festival. Good times!

We always get asked about what its like running a market business. Honestly, they're a fantastic way to network, it’s way cheaper than renting a proper shop & it gives us the freedom to travel around to find out who our lovely client base are! But wow, they can be exhausting-especially after a full week in the kitchen. Because of that, we take the advantage of this quieter time & purposefully don't book any markets for August & instead take some time to rest & recharge.

We will still be dispatching orders when temperatures allow us to & for our local peeps who can't wait a month for their fix, as we work from our converted space at home here in Diss, you have the option to collect from us during the week. Just place your order online, choose "collect directly from us" at the checkout & I’ll drop you an email to arrange a day & time that works for you to collect.

We've already started work in preparation for the next menu changes, as well as our Halloween range & yes the 'C' word has been rearing its head already - Christmas Advent Calendars.

We’ll be sharing more updates on all of that over the next few weeks, but for now, thank you all so much for the ongoing support!
