Saturday Maker’s Spotlight this week is our fabulous jeweller Hattie Wragg!

Hattie makes her gorgeous jewellery by melting recycled silver (repurposed from roles in electronics or traditional jewellery) and letting it flow between charcoal surfaces, creating shapes that look like pieces of nature. Alongside jewellery, Hattie works in collage, creating narrative compositions, and has been experimenting with basketry.

Come and chat to Hattie in her lovely studio upstairs at designermakers21. There is even a sofa (studio envy!) so you can relax and linger a while, and maybe find a perfect jewel for you or to gift!

We are open 10am-5pm here in Diss, with studios and exhibitions to explore.

What an amazing workshop today with Poppy Jackson Poppy Jackson, BA, MA

Guided by Poppy, participants were introduced to the ancient art of Cuttlebone Casting, and created some beautiful casts by pouring molten pewter into carved cuttlebones. Just look at these wonderful mini sculptures and talismans! Lovely to hear the excitement throughout the day as the casts were revealed, and great for visitors to see this process in action.

Thanks to Poppy for hosting this fab workshop as part of our Incubator Residency programme! All residency artists have the opportunity to lead a workshop, adding to the wide range of creative workshops on offer at designermakers21 🙌

This Saturday, our spotlight member is Kate Welton!Kate Welton

Kate is a potter specialising in wheel-thrown ceramics, making a range of mugs, jugs, bowls and vases. Kate’s designs are inspired by the Suffolk landscape, and she uses slips (liquid clay) to apply decoration onto the clay’s surface.

If you’ve ever wanted to learn how to throw a pot, Kate offers a range of workshops from her studio in our courtyard building, and loves sharing her potting skills/generally spreading the joy of all things clay!

Pop in for a chat this Saturday 13th June, we are open 10am-5pm here in Diss.

Take a look at the work of three of our fantastic associate members.

Birks-Holden;
A collaboration between Clare Birks and Christopher Holden. Hand crafted pieces using theatre design, prop making and carpentry techniques, including: model making, scene painting, marbling, decoupage, stencilling & papier-mâché. Using materials from renewable sources, and adapting and recycling – in true theatrical tradition.

Andrea Wright Jewelry;
Andrea works from her studio in Suffolk where she designs and creates clean lined, wearable contemporary jewellery using recycled silver and gold and free form hand facetted precious and semi precious stones.

Lois Thirkettle ceramics;
Lois's pottery is mainly functional but with a ‘twist’. Mostly bowls, jugs and mugs etc, she also makes large platters and decorative pieces. She use earthstone original and special fleck clay, firing to 1260 degrees stoneware and tend to focus on 3 glazes, a beautiful bright blue which has different qualities depending on the clay used, a duck egg blue and a matt white. I decorate mainly with ‘wax resist’.

You can find their work throughout our galleries on the ground floor at designermakers21, in Diss.
We are open Thursdays-Saturdays 10am-5pm
