Another lovely warm, sunny day out there, and it's a bank holiday too, something can't be right.
Just a reminder that we will be shut on Monday and back open to normal opening hours Tuesday (9am-1pm) but just a thought for the weekend.
With the sun coming out, lighter evenings and mornings, our manager was riding in this morning enjoying his all so long commute of 1.2 miles (lives in Roydon) thinking, why don't more people do this, maybe a bit biased as all staff here love to cycle, but it's a great way to start the day, bit of fresh air in our lungs and a nice wake up before starting work.
We know it's not possible for everyone to cycle as they might live too far away from work or have to use a van for tools or car for school runs on their way into work. But if there is a chance you could use the bike to cycle in, even of from one end of town to the other, we would recommend it, not just because we are a bike shop, but it is a great way to achieve a few things.
1 - It can save a lot of money, £4 a day to park the car in town, working only 4 days a week during the summer months, lets say 4 days a week May to August is 17 weeks, lets say 5 weeks are raining and not great to cycle in that's 12 weeks, £4 a day for 4 days, all in that is £192 just in parking, no fuel added to that.
2 - Great for the environment and a good way to become carbon neutral, the bicycle is one of the most efficient modes of transport ever made.
3 - Will be less motor traffic on the roads
4 - After a summer of cycling in to work you will feel a great accomplishment.
5 - does wonders for physical and mental health.
Like I said not everyone could cycle in, some might not be able to get their current bike road worthy or afford the new bike you might need to make it a pleasant and efficient journey into work, and we get that, but there are government schemes to help with this, one of which is Cycle to Work, where the cost of a new bike, no matter the value, is spread over a 12 month period and taken from your wages before tax so its lowering your taxable income straight away, saving you money as well as spreading the cost over 12 months.
It might take a little longer to get in and you might feel a bit rusty or vulnerable, but the more you do it the faster you will become and it really wont take long to get into the routine of leaving a few minutes earlier, and the nervousness of feeling vulnerable and not so confident on the roads will soon fade away, and in reality even if you are going 5mph you are still going faster than you would be sitting in stationary traffic.
So it saves a good amount of money, makes you feel a sense of accomplishment, grows confidence and is great for mental health.
